Ok, I've seen the side mount scope rail that are supposed to fit a Mini 14 Ranch by screwing into the magazine guide side hole. This isn't what I want. The Ranch comes with little rings that mount the scope by screwing into the slots at each end of the receiver/bolt/ejector assembly. which works ok for longer bodied scopes. However, I have a 4x short body, and a BSA red dot, neither of which will fit the length of the rings that come with the Mini 14. Has anyone seen the screw in cams with a rail on them, so you can add your own rings onto, or as the Red Dot has its own mounts, you can mount any size scope on? The screw in cams would have to be exactly the right distance apart, with the little cams front and back to fit into the half-moon grooves on the receiver, or at least adjustable so as to fit properly. Anybody make something like this, or can I make a million dollars if I fabricate one myself. (Damn!, I just gave away my secret!)

I'm afraid that the market for your invention would be pretty limited, as there are only 12 people on Earth who are dumb enough to put a scope on a Mini! ;)

Seriously, your best bet for a red dot, without spending a fortune, would probably be to find a Pro Point 3 and install it with 30mm Ruger rings.

I have a Bushnell 4X12 scope on my Mini-14 that I got from riflescopes.com for $39.99. I traded the medium stainless rings that came with my Mini for some high blued ones at the gunshop. With decent ammo it groups about the same as a scoped SKS @ 100yds (2"-3" until it heats up) and I love the scope.

What were you saying again Mr. Steptoe? ;)

yup, chalk me up as one of the 12 jackasses with a scoped mini-14. I have the weigand mount and it's really solid.

No mummac, it's actually just a standard Mini-14 High scope mount from Ruger. Came in the retail package, I just traded them outright because the stainless scope mount sells for more no matter in what configuration, so they didn't care.

Works great with my $39 Bushnell and the deer and prairie dogs or coyotes can't tell the difference, neither can my targets.

Sorry, I don't understand. That is a rail that goes where the Ranch rings go. You could put any size rings you want on the rail at varying length. That would accommodate short optics.

I don't see the point for putting that big rail on there. Why would you want short optics anyways? It's not like an SKS where stripper clips would be desirable. Maybe the cost factor of a shorter scope? But my full sized scope was very cheap.

Sorry, I don't understand either.

OK, everybody, step back and take a deep breath. I didn't mean to start an optical war. It was just a silly little question. I have a big long Tasco 3-12 variable that fits the mini's rings very nicely, but as has been poignantly mentioned repeatedly, WHY? I also have a 4x short body and a Red Dot and I would like to put either on the Mini-14 (just to see how it shoots with optics, OK?) but they are too short to fit the ring configuration. I have seen the side mount (is that the Weigand, Andrew?) but it reminds me too much of the AK side mount, (OH, God, here we go, again!) So I just wondered if someone made a ring adaptor that fit in the factory grooves. It just seems every time I mention something these days about buying something for my guns, Momma starts hollerin about the grandkids Christmas, college and the national debt. :)confused: ) I have three long guns, and three optics. As far as she is concerned 3 plus 3 equal good nuff. Remember, I'm the guy that took 500 rounds of 22 ammo and turned it into an excuse to buy a Mark II. I wonder if I could convince her I need optics for the Mark II? Didja ever notice that the word convince is pretty close to the word conive? Hmmmm.....

Mummac, thank you very much, although I look at it with mixed emotions. First, It's exactly what I'm looking for, it's what I described, and I am so glad to see it, but alas, my chance at millions (let's see, $49.95 x 12 people who want it) is about $600 with cost production is about $85,000 in the hole. I guess I'll just buy one. Thanks again. Now, everybody else, truce.

Thanks Kestryll. I put in a bid on it. On a sadder note, please join me in a moment for the two Mishawaka City PD officers who died in the line of duty over the weekend. Alas, sadly, the perp ended his self before anybody else could do it for him. Always a downer when a cop buys it on duty.
