Story here: http://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2011/05/14/house-passes-bill-to-expand-gun-laws/

I'd like to know who the "Law enforcement" officials who oppose this are.

The comments section is especially entertaining as well. Lots of hand wringing and cries of blood in the streets.

Letters to Mark Dayton encouraging him to vote for this would be great. He says he supports gun rights. Lets encourage him to show us how much!

I'd like to know who the "Law enforcement" officials who oppose this are.

Typically, upper echelon is opposed to any easing of restrictions to the 2nd.

There is a bill in the FL legislature to allow open carry. Local sheriff, a "big supporter of the second amendment" is opposed, as are many sheriffs in the state.

And the one's i posted under "activism",,, see C'mon Minnesotan's " and yes it passed house and senate but lil-beady-eye'd Dayton is rampin-up to Veto-it,, I can just see it ,,
Im still hoping he'll apply common-sense to his thoughts, but, he's Dumbycrat so ya, know what they say: Wish in 1-hand,,,,,,

Dayton has to walk a very very fine line with the gun stuff. He knows that...

That being said, he is a dyed in the wool liberal! I would not be surprised if he slaps a veto on it.

I am hoping he knows that the liberals won't abandon him because of this issue, but his swing voters will be screaming about it still at re election time.

MN is home to many not so conservative, not so liberal voters that vote for their union. They will not tolerate too much from him.

It would be nice to see this pass.

I read an article (from local CBS I think) titled "Shoot First" law..... cant remember the rest but I loved how they twisted it to sound like everyone will get shot if this goes through.

Yea, The "Post-Bulletin" newspaper here locally has titled EVERY article on the subject "shoot first" bill,, i can guarantee you they'll get an ear-full next time they call me for the 200-th time to "re-new" my suscription, and am composing "polite" letter to the editor,, hard for me to do without blood-pressure elevation.
Since the 2nd Amendment was designed to protect the other amendments I believe that they are entitled to "their opinion" just like im entitled to NOT support their business,
We have a 50/50 split here between agricultural folk and medical-yuppies so i'll be sure and let my 1/2 know how the "PB" feels about gun-control !

It's interesting and revealing that all media and those who oppose it are only concetrating on the 1st element, the "Stand Your Ground" section. There's two more - "Universal Recognition" (Carry reciprocity between states) and the "Emergency Powers Reform" (no confiscation in emergencies ala Hurricane K...)

Those other two are of main interest to me. The Stand Your Ground part really hasn't been (in my opinion) much of an issue in the past...
