I may end up living in Mississippi and would like to know what the rules and laws are regarding shooting across open land.

In California, you're pretty much fried if you get caught shooting on public land unless it's sanctioned (like a shooting range or hunting land). I understand that in Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico, the laws are much less strict, and that most times if one wants to try out a rifle, shooting out in the open desert is pretty much allowed.

How about Mississippi? Does anyone know specifically where I can find the information, or know what the laws are?

Thank you.

Not much open desert in Mississippi that is open to the public because the rich doctors from Jackson have bought it all up. :)

The largest wide open areas that I can think of are farmer's fields in the Delta where you could gain permission to shoot when their crops are out. I can't think of a single place where you could just pile out of your vehicle and have a long range shooting area that was safe and legal.

Give me a holler if you get here.

HankL,

Thanks very much. I'll let you know when I get there. I'm looking at Perry, Forrest, Pearl River, Union, and Pontotc counties, and can't make up my mind...south, near the Gautier 1000yd range, or north, away from the hurricanes and tornado alleys.
