Mixed Powder

Ever tried to cut through a plastic powder bottle without shaking the pee wadding out of it?

Those things are tougher then Woodpecker Lips!!!

I tried to make a funnel out of a Unique powder bottle a couple of years ago with a knife.
Ain't happening!

I finally took it to the basement, laid it on its side, and ran it through the band-saw!

:what::evil:In that case, turning the band saw on its side and running the powder bottle through it (the powder bottle remaining upright throughout the entire exercise) should do the trick. (edit: to RCModel. post 54. You, of course, are correct. I should have put the appropriate emoticons-now added. Thanks)

To me, though someone with a ballistics lab might be able to evaluate the mixed powder, it just isn't worth it.

One could thoroughly mix the powder and KEEP IT MIXED ( as fine particles and coarse particles will tend to continuously separate), load a few rounds with the mixed powder and evaluate pressure and velocity and eventually be safe. But even if your bottle of powder could be used and could be used accurately, what are you saving? What are you risking.

I would not even use it as fertilizer on a food crop, but only lawn. The nitrogen in it is good, but other chemicals in the propellant may not be so good to eat.

Be safe. Always, all ways.

Use your brake bleeder kit to suck the top inch or two off into the reservoir.

Then empty the reservoir onto your flower bed. The rest of the powder can then be spread over the yard.

I'm with the group that thinks it was too late to do anything about it once you poured it in.

1. My band saw doesn't turn on it's side.

2. I wouldn't even think about sawing a full powder bottle in the first place.

Friction, Heat, or a spark from the blade could light the whole thing up in your face!

If I saw a powder bottle with a power saw?
It will be a empty powder bottle like I sawed!

The best advice given, was to dispose of the powder.

It may not be what you want to hear.

Yet it is your best course of action.

Mixing saltpeter, sulfur, and charcoal...may not lead to a slower burning saltpeter. ;)

It isn't worth earning the nickname 'lefty' or 'one-eye' is it?

Even if the risk, is small.

However, if you're reloading for ISIS, use the mixture, and load as if it is Unique.

I'll throw "Scarface" into that group!

Well said! If you're loading for ISIS, load away, if not, to the Bermuda it goes!

ColtPythonElite is totally right

"I am amazed this thread laced with bad ideas is still alive."

cmon guys :scrutiny: TAKE THE HIGH ROAD. Don't condone this weak stuff.

be safe.

While your still thinking about this. If the powder your dumped into the wrong bottle is denser, any movement will make it start settling toward the bottom. So as you keep moving it around your mixing it up. Most powders have kind of a blind so it will have heavier flakes as well as lighter ones.

Do the right thing and use it as Fertilizer. Mark it as a learning lesson.

Well, I get idiot of the year...i finish d reloading 357s with bullseye and emptied the powder measure into a brand new pound of unique by mistake. I'm surprised the unique didn't have a seal on it, but I'm still an idiot. In the hurry of cleaning up I grabbed the wrong one. Luckily I'm accumulating a lot of powder and space is tight, but this is a good lesson for sure. It's probably less than 1/4 cup on top of the unique. I'm thinking of just scooping up,the top inch or so of powder and tossing it. Any other thoughts? And what's the best way to dispose of the powder?

Thanks...
Prevention:

I keep two powder measures filled with some kind of powder at all times on my loading bench, and I use several different handguns powders as well. So my rule is to, without exception, keep the powder container sitting behind the measure. In other words, if I have Unique in the measure, the Unique container sits behind the measure.

I just did it with an empty alliant bottle and a brand new razor to humor myself... really not that difficult to do without moving the bottle.

There's not much anyone can do to influence someone who is determined to do something stupid. The OP was given excellent advice. It's up to him to follow or not.

OP: please don't take these unknown reloads to the range. Do your fellow shooters a service and go into the woods to shoot. That way you only hurt yourself.
