I've got a few questions about the laws in Saint Louis, MO. I've searched for awhile and couldn't find any answers to my questions so I figure I'll ask here. I'm 18 years old about two months away from being 19 and I was wondering if I can transport my AK-47 to the range and my Dad's Sig Sauer P6 to the range. I'm pretty sure I can take the rifle to the range legally but I was wondering if I can take that handgun to the range? If I can does it have to be unloaded and in the trunk of my car or something?

Another question this one about purchasing. I know that to purchase a handgun from a retail dealer you have to be 21. What if I purchase from a private party? Can I legally own a handgun? My uncle has a Ruger MKII .22 that he is trying to sell for $100. Could I legally buy it and own it?

I've read about straw purchases and know that is illegal. What if I gave my father $300 for a $500 gun and he paid the other $200 for me as a birthday gift? I'm not looking to do anything illegal because I'm sure jail isn't fun.

Transporting an AK pattern rifle is no different than any other rifle.

In Missouri you can own and transport a handgun at 18. You just can't buy one or buy ammunition for it until you're 21.

At 18 everything must be transported unloaded with the amunition separate from the arm. Keep the guns in the trunk and the ammo in the back seat,

You can be given a handgun or buy one from a private party at 18.

And on your last question:

Your father can give you the handgun as a gift, with NO compensation for it. If you gave him even part of the purchase price for a gun that he bought from a dealer with the purpose of giving it to you, then it would be a straw purchase.

Now, you can certainly give him $300 for something completely unrelated to a gun and then if he gives you the gift of a handgun, not related to the $300 in any way, then he is just being a generous father.

Also, be aware, that a private purchase or a gift transaction can only be legal between residents of the same state, otherwise the firearm must be transferred through an FFL, and you wouldn't be able to do that legally with a handgun.

I'd take the Ruger .22 for $100.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to have fun going to the range with my new .22 when it warms up again in the next few months.
