I saw a nice mod 10-2 with a 6" tapered barrel today and was wondering if it would be possible to put that barrel on a mod 13 and have it stand up to the pressure of the 357. It would be my idea of a Blue version of a long barrel Mt gun on a Round butt K frame.

I have thought of putting a mod 64 4" tapered barrel on a mod 65 but would prefer blue.

The pressure problems are more involved with the cylinder and frame rather than barrel but you would have to check it out carefully.

I'm not 100% certain, but I think you would have to match the ages of the gun fairly carefully to ensure the best possible barrel fit.

I'm pretty certain that you couldn't take a barrel from a late 1950s Model 10 and drop it into a 1980s Model 13. I think the shank and thread dimensions are different.

If you want to experiment Numrich/The Gunparts Corp. has a selection of 6" model 10 barrels. They also have some of the old 6 1/2" "slim" barrels that were used on pre-war .38-44 Heavy Duty revolvers. These would work on any N-frame and could possibly be modified to work on an L-frame.

The shank and threads on a .38 barrel will work on a later .357/K frame, but the the shank has to be shortened because the cylinder is longer. The question of strength applies more to the cylinder then barrel, but be aware that earlier 6" barrels made for K-frames usually had narrow front sights. Later barrels had wider (1/8") sights.

Last but not least, if you found a model 10, or earlier 1905 Hand Ejector (they also came with round butts) you cound have what ever barrel was on the revolver removed and one of Nimrich's 6" barrels mounted on the frame.
