I just purchased a 1954-56 Winchester Model 12 Heavy Duck Gun with upgraded field grade wood and forearm, checkered and round post doughnut rib. Gun is 156xxx and has not been reblued, but has no winchester proof markings. Can someone tell me what is up, no simmons marking on rib and the blueing is original, no doubt. Rib has wavy lines.

Most had either no rib or a solid matted rib. Should be a "3"" designation on the barrel for chambering along with choke info.

Original stock had a second hole bored alongside the bolt hole for a lead plug to add weight to the butt.

Solid red recoil pad.

The gun is a superspeed 3 inch, stock and forearm are original upgrades. The original recoil pad is winchester and not been removed. The gun is original bluing. The rib is dated properly as this rib would be correct for a 1954-56 date. But it does not have proof marks. Would have been 1st -3rd year of new winchester vent rib. If someone was going thru all the trouble of counterfitting the rib, why would they not have had proof mark stamped. But the bottom line is the bluing is original.
