Ran into a fellow the other day interesting in selling an old Spencer. Looked at it, I'm not an expert. SN was 1313. He had never fired it, didn't know anything about it. Bought it in France of all places, at a pawn shop he said after WWII. Just to hang on the wall.
Appeared to be maybe a rifle cut down to carbine. Doesn't have a saddle ring bar, just a saddle ring on a small loop on the left side of receiver. Action was very smooth, Bore looked OK, no significant wear other than a rifle that had been around a 100 plus years.
He isn't in a hurry to get rid of it, but would let it go. I'm doing a little research to see if it's something I could plink with alongside my old Blackpowder Winchester and Sharps. I'm going to take it to my local gunsmith to check it out, but he doesn't know much about old guns.
Anybody have any information on that range of SN Spencer's.
Thanks
