Hi,

I have a lot of monarch ammo on hand in .38 special, .357 magnum, and .40 S&W. I've noticed that it generates light primer strikes in otherwise unreliable pistols. For those unfamiliar with monarch, it's the house brand for a chain of sporting good stores in the southeastern US. It says on the box that it's made in Serbia and has the headstamp "PPU".

Has anyone else had these sorts of problems with this ammo? The pistols I've had light primer strikes in are 2 S&W M&P 40's, an S&W 327, and an S&W 340.

Nope, but I haven't used just a whole ton of Monarch, maybe 500 rounds or so. Haven't used it in any S&W handguns either except a 637. I assume you are using the brass cased stuff and not the steel cased?

I've used a lot of Monarch in 40S&W, 38Spec, 30-30, and 7.62X39. I've never had a problem with any of it and the prices are pretty good. I've only used the 38spec in my S&W 442. Most of the 40S&W has been out of my Taurus 24/7 Pro DS. All of the 30-30 has been in my Marlin 336. My SKS ate up all the 7.62X39. It's actually my main shooting range brand of ammo. I have an Academy close to me so I can buy it easily.
