A woman and a girl received minor injuries when a gun dealer inadvertently fired a loaded handgun during a gun show in Mesa late Saturday morning, police said.

Police responded to the Mesa Convention Center about 11:30 a.m. to a call of a shot being fired during a gun show, said Det. Mike Melendez, a police spokesman.

Investigators learned that a presenter at the gun show brought a loaded gun into the event, which is not permitted, Melendez said.

"That person left the gun behind at the table," Melendez said. "Later on someone was manipulating the gun and it went off."

A woman was struck in the neck, while a young girl suffered scratches. Their injuries were not considered serious or even "gunshot wounds," Melendez said.

"We are trying to determine whether someone could be charged with a crime or not," Melendez said.

The investigation will be sent for review by the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, which will determine whether unlawful use or discharge of a firearm charges are warranted.

The Crossroads of the West Gun Show began Saturday and ends Sunday.

I can't believe someone would have a loaded gun on a table, let alone someone pick it up and pull the trigger. Where was the the zip tie?
This kind of stupidity does nothing good for our cause.

Put enought people together and someone will do something stupid. Luck ladies. I just don't go to gun shows anymore never see any deals anyhow and to many oddballs running around.

So basically someone got smacked in the neck and a girl got scratched?

Wait until it's on CNN: " After the gun went off, multiple bystanders were struck"

Yep, I learned my lesson this year about gun shows. All I saw was blatant price gouging across the board.

However, something like this might change the rules to no ammo at all {for sale, or otherwise} at any shows hereafter.

Accidents happen. The table "presenter" definitely screwed up. I hope it haunts his dreams for a while.

Accidents happen when they're allowed to. Somehow this fellow managed to break the no-loaded-weapons rule, and 4 more RULES, any one of which could have prevented this.

At it's core, that's exactly what happened. It was pure irresponsibilty on one or more gun owner's parts. As a community, we shouldnt just sweep it under the rug.

Let's be glad it wasnt woman and child killed at gun show.

They are very strict at our WAC gunshows, but I guess people can still sneak weapons in...but what idiot keeps it loaded?

Edit: Meant to quote this:

"So basically someone got smacked in the neck and a girl got scratched?

Wait until it's on CNN: " After the gun went off, multiple bystanders were struck""

I disagree on this being an accident. More like multiple instances of negligence.

What happened to handle all firearms as loaded?

Wait until it's on CNN: " After the loaded assault weapon went off, multiple bystanders were struck. This included one innocent woman who received possible life threatening injuries to her neck, and a child who received possibly scarring lesions from the exploding bullet fragments."

put a little lib-media spin on that for you.

It is indeed unfortunate that incidents like this have such a profound effect on our r2kba.

This isn't anymore bad for gun shows than the news report that a police officer shot himself is bad for police officers.

I clear every gun I handle even if the person handing it to me tells me they have already done so.

Gun shows have become their own worst enemy, outrageous entry fees, outrageous gun prices, most dealers/sellers lack the minimum customer service experience and in West Palm Beach have become a gun show/flea market. I have also heard that they are contemplating starting a parking fee. I will use the on line gun dealers and local auctions from now on.

Just for the pure sweet sarcastic fun of it

I present the new RKBA -

The Right to Keep and Bear Automobiles.

Given the accident rate vs. firearms .........

But, naaaaah,

To freaking much profit.

I usually try to make one of the gun shows in Boise, but the mark up on firearms there is insane. You couldn't find an AR for under $1500 at the last one I went to ..... the price gouging is horrid.
