From this weekend, so far this year, I've seen just over 100 black bear in northwest Wisconsin. If you're a bear hunter, northern Wisconsin is bear hunting nirvana, somewhere between 32,000 - 40,000 black bear are roaming the northern third of the state...This large boar was enamored with this apple tree, he repeated this stunt a bit later, as two other adult boars jousted, apparently disputing a nearby sow.

Brawling bears...

I'm fairly certain this was about a nearby sow.

One more set, including a shot of the little sow that sparked all of the brawling(at front).

Large sow....

I watched for twenty minutes or so as the smaller bear worked his way in on this very large sow, then at the exact moment of her charge I freaking sneezed! This resulted in my catching only the back end of her charge. Nonetheless, it was quite entertaining as it was. :)

Cool Pics Feanor, things look kinda dry up in that part of cheeseland also. The drought has shriveled up most of the wild berries around here and folks are seein' more bears than usual comin' into bird feeders in backs yards.

Cool pics. I've never had bear.
It's delicious, I especially favor sausage, just about any traditional Brautwurst recipe works very well. Another favorite is jerky, very popular at deer camp. Just remember, bear meat needs to be handled & prepared properly. As a boy growing up in Fairbanks, my mom used to prepare a killer pot roast out of black bear.

I love the white patch on the chest in those first pics. I have set my bear hunting 'bar' pretty high in that I'm content just watching them unless I see one that could easily go over 400+ lbs. (not common where I hunt). If I see ole Poppa Bear, it's game over and lights out. :D
