I know that the gun I just got from my Dad, Grandma's old 16-gauge single shot, was made by Stevens. That's about all I know.
I've been having a lot of misfires with Remington 1 oz "Game Load" shells. Very shallow dents in the primers, shells won't fire even with miltiple strikes. The gun shoot Fioccis without missing. Is this an ammo problem, a gun problem, or both?
If it's a gun problem, parts will likely be needed. I'm thinking for sure a mainspring and likely a firing pin as well. And therein lies the other question:
Numrich doesn't show a "1929" Stevens. Was that a Springfield-only name, and what would the gun have been called if it'd been sold as a Stevens? What should I be looking for, parts-wise.
I'd really like to keep this gun afield, it carries beautifully, has family history, and shoots really nice, when it goes bang. Plus, I like the single-shot thing. I miss a lot, but I have a lot of fun doing it. That's cool, to me.
Thanks,
