You'll need more than 5. Last time I tried this, 54R got through 7 until it yawed outside of the stack. 7.5x55 is the current champion, penetrating 8 full drives and most of the 9th.

my laptop was on its way to the range but suddenly is working better than ever!

it was spared the wrath of Uncle "man of steel" Joe and Chairman Mao

Yes a hard drive needs to be taken out to the range for a good attitude adjustment. With a good Mosin Nagant that can shoot Minute of Hard drive it out to let some of that frustration out.

Tell me you at least saved the magnets, those little devils are handy.

whats really fun is makin' 'em fly up in the air...could do that with my FAL when we had an open range to go to.

Computer cases will start to smoke when you hit 'em with the old WWB 223 hollow points. :)

Had a couple of guys come into our range testing a new "bullet-proof" hard drive. Our range master shot it with a 9mm and a .45 and it barely dented it. Needless to say he wasn't about to let that damned hard drive beat him so he promptly retrievied an m1 garand in 30-06 and blew the thing to pieces. You should have seen those guys faces. :) His next remark was something about how nothing is bullet-proof, just bullet resistant.

EDIT: Be careful shooting computer equipment, that smoke is from what I understand very bad for your health.

must be nice to shoot stuff beside paper targets. Ranges I go to are paper targets only.

Doesn't surprise me. The .45 is not the best punch through caliber around. Too Slow.

But damn I would have loved to see that M1 punch through it!!!!! I love shooting non-paper targets. Paper-Targets are just boring.

+1. I had a hard drive stop a .45 round, but I think I hit the magnet on that one.

Sometimes laptops need a little 00-buck attitude adjustment (and a mag from the glock 23 for good measure).

Sadly, I wasn't able to recover the data off this hard drive after the AR has it's way with it...
