Hi folks,

I recently picked up a 91/30 Mosin-Nagant and have started the process of cleaning it up.

I found some excellent bolt disassembly instructions here:
http://www.surplusrifle.com/finnishmosin/boltdisassembly/index.asp

However, one thing this article doesn't cover is lubrication.

Are there places in the bolt that should (and should not) be lubricated during reassembly?

Any help or pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks

Andy

I don't know if its correct or not, but I lube the bolts of my MNs just like I do the bolt of my AR. I just spray all the parts with CLP and reassemble it. I've never had any problems with mine.

Considering what they've been through and how they continue to fire, you could probably wizz on the bolt and it would operate fine. :D

Just wipe it down with a patch that has a few drops of oil/CLP and it will work fine. Doesn't take a lot.

HAHAHA

Thanks for all the laughs guys.

And.. thanks for the serious replies too.

I think I'm good now. Take care.

Andy

Nope. You could clean it out with M-Pro and leave a little layer of CLP inside if you want. But any serious lube is pretty much pointless at best and may attract crud at worst.

maybe...

<<could you use water buffalo lard as a substitute?...just wondering>>

Well, it's OK as a temporary expedience, or if you don't have any rat tallow.

Just don't make a habit of it.:neener:

CajunBass, first I laughed, then I thought, "Hmm, I wonder if the uric acid actually WOULD dissolve the corrosive salts left by surplus ammo?" I asked my girlfriend, who has a pretty solid grounding in chemistry, what she thought of the idea. She's now drinking heavily.....
