Mossberg 151K

I was just reading (and enjoyed very much) the thread concerning the Nylon 66.
What caught my attention was that some of them are fed thru the butt stock. I've just found a .22, a Mossberg 151K, it was such a neat rifle,I bought it. It is also fed thru the butt stock. Does anyone have any experience with one of these?

I have a similar one which was called "The Jack Rabbit Special" Model 351C (C means carbine). It was my first 22 rifle at age 14 and shot extremely well. Dime sized groups were the norm at 50 yds with a scope. Never had a problem with the tubular magazine feeding through the stock. The only problem I have had with Mossbergs is that they "wear out" and things like pins shear, springs break, and firing pins need to be replaced. I replaced several firing pins. Have not shot it in ages. It might not even work??

Thanks for the reply, the 151k is a little long. I'll probably mount a scope on mine. It has 2 grooves along the top of the reciever, I'm not too savy with what mounts I should use, any ideas?

The grooves are for mounting a 22 rimfire scope. Most of the 22 scopes come with the mounts. Take a look at a good 4x (inch tube) or my most recent 22 scope the Bushnell 3-9x rimfire scope though ebay at about $40-$50. Not an expensive scope but it is bright and has 1/4" adjustments. I have no problems with it. Do a search on "rimfire scope" on ebay and you will probably see one for sale new. I believe some of the folks like Cheaper than Dirt and Cabela's sell them too. Have not looked for a while. Buying from a regular retailer gives you added security if you have problems with it.

My Mossie 351C has an old Herters 4x inch tube rimfire scope on it. Never a problem with the scope. Bought it for about $22 when I was 14. That was a lot of money to me at the time. I've had many many pleasureable days shooting that rifle. It was a tack driver. Mossbergs were well known for their accuracy and modest price tag. I was a terror on rabbits shooting from the jump with it. Really fun!

I bought a Mossberg 640K (22WMR) that I shot a while and then sold. At the time, I just didn't have any use for it. Wish I had it back now as it shot good. I traded it on my first Custom knife (drop point skinner with gray micrata handle) of all things at a gun show. Still have the knife although I have not seen anything made by that guy (Ben Voss) in some time now. Nice knife actually and the knife that started me looking at and buying custom knifes.

That was the rifle that I learned to shoot with. I thought it was incredibly accurate for a semi- auto. The original scope went cloudy, but found a exact duplicate at a gun show for cheap. My dad has even told me stories of years ago, like in the 50's of going shining with this rifle. I still have it. Still works fine

I have a Mossberg 151k that was my grandfathers. These guns were made from 1950-1951. Great gun. I shoot targets and woodchucks with it. The gun is sighted right in. great gun. thought i might add to this thread because i have one of these mossbergs.

mossberg; most peeps who know a little, or even a lot about 22's, don't know anything about mossys, and they were both some of the finest most beautiful, and also uniquely made 22's, that could shoot absolutely lights out. some had built in diopter sites, that you could change and flip down, or speed rear sites, or slings , that came out of the buttstock, like a roll up phone chord, or great peep sites, or the front stock would flip down, and become a vertical foregrip.
all kinds of stuff mossberg did, and they made some fabulous target rifle single shot types too, you can still get them, I see them at gunshows, from the 1930's, through the 1960's all the time. big , massive, huge heavy things, with full 1 inch thick, no taper bbls on them, that are like 26 to 30 inches long.

Mine has a problem feeding a lot of different .22 LR ammunition. Other than that, I love it!

I had one some years back and sold it like a dummy. It was the best 22 i ever had, would shoot 1"to 1 1/4" groups at 100 yards with a good 4x16 scope and stingers. Wish i still had it. Spend some time cleaning that barrel good and you should have a rifle that wouldn't be bettered by todays 22's. Still have a score master but ain't as good.

I have 2 mossberg 151's. Have not an issue with either one. They both shoot exellent and a joy to own. they are simmply the best 22lr for under 125.00. Keep them wet with oil and mine will shoot any 22lr ammo out there.
