Mossberg 500c

Hello all,

I have inherited a Mossberg 500c. This is the first pump action shotgun for me as I am a SS guy. I am going to keep this for home defense and need some help with removing the plug. After doing some research on this forum it seemed easy enough. As far as I can tell there is no plug visible and none comes out when turned upside down and shaken. It will hold 2 shells and about 1/4 of a third. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. For what it is worth this was NIB when it came to my hands.

Remove the knurled knob at the end of the magazine tube, hold the gun pointed down while holding the barrel in place and shake. the tip of the wooden plug will come out of the hole. Just pull it out and put the knurled knob back on making sure the barrel is properly seated in the receiver.

Ronto has it right...The Mossy "Magazine Capacity Reduction Plug" is a simple wooden dowel rod, with 1 or 2 small o-rings on it. Take barrel off, point receiver toward ground, and shake a bit...rod should partly come out. Remove rod and re-install barrel. You are done.

yep did that and...nothing comes out. I fear it may be something else as I have used a light and there is nothing in there that looks at all like a wooden dowel. No worries as the 21 is getting put together...quail season opens tomorrow.

Sometimes the rod gets snarled up in the magazine spring and has to be pulled out with pliers.

You might try removing the magazine. After removing the barrel, you remove the magazine by unscrewing it. Be careful, sometimes the magazine is held in place with locktite and the magazine can be damaged if you use too much force when gripping it. Depending upon the type of locktite, you may need to apply some heat.
