I have a brand new Mossy 500 bantam 12 gauge. I cleaned it up a bit the other day and then put it back together. I followed the directions in the manual for the function test and when the trigger is supposed to click it clicks. However, if I put in a "traditions" snap cap and cycle it through or place it in the chamber, then rack the slide the trigger will not budge. Is this a problem with the snap caps? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Not totally sure of your circumstances, but I too bought some snap caps for my M500 and only later realized that I really needed "dummy rounds" or "dummy shells" which are full size unlike the way-too-short-to-feed snap caps.

an old post but i'm looking for answers to this... brand new mossberg 500 that does not "fire" on traditions snap caps. The package says "for dry firing"

are traditions snap caps the plastic type with spring inside?
are they shorter than a normal 2 3/4 shell?

will it fire on a normal shell or at least empty?

if it fires on empty or normal shells then id switch to the Azoom snap caps thats what i use and never had a single problem

if it wont fire empty or a loaded shell you have an issue with your trigger group and its time for a gunsmith or mossberg customer service (unless your skilled enough to do the work yourself)

yes, traditions are the shorties with the spring inside... i did by some other brand, i think a zooms, and expect they work. other threads i read is that the traditions ones are for dryfiring break open shotguns.
