Mossberg "Jungle Gun"??

my friend has a Mossberg "Jungle Gun" that he is thinking of selling to me
but he can't remember how muchit cost(I think his mom gave it to him & he is embarrassed to admit she's more into guns then he is)
he said it has a pistol grip and that he has only put 100 rounds through it.
I don't know anything about shotguns or shooting them or prices-are these good guns? how much are they going for used? any negatives or postives you can think of?

I guessed $150. Took a quick look at GunBroker and found a new(?) 20 ga PGO at auction for that.

Not a big fan of the PGO myself but I have been pleased with my Mossy 500. There's been a couple heated threads on the pluses/minuses of PGO here in the "shotguns" forum. Keep in mind you can always get custom stock doodads later, but by then you'll be up to the cost of a new gun.

I'd try to "WildAlaska" him down to about a hundred.

The "Jungle Gun" was a semi-auto shotgun, IIRC - the 9200? Mossberg stopped making those a few years ago, and has recently brought out a completely new model. Parts for the older guns are hard to come by, so be careful...

Preacherman is correct.
I have a Mossberg 9200 Jungle Gun.
These are semi automatic and no one ever made a pistol grip only for the gun that I am aware of.
Choate made a very limited run of folding stocks.
There were two versions of this gun made.
A 2.75 and 3 inch capable chambered gun with 18.5 inch Modified barrel and a True Mil-Spec 2.75" only chambered gun with an 18.5" cylinder bore barrel.

If your friend has a true Jungle Gun it is worth about 300-400 bucks depending on the condition.

A standard Model 500 pump action 'riot' gun with a pistol grip is worth about 150 used and not much more and while the name sounds cool, this would not be a true Jungle Gun.

Could be wrong but I thought some of those only functioned with full power loads. That's OK as long as that's what you wanted.

The 2.75" chamber Mil-Spec gun is supposed to only function with max load 00 buck but mine feeds all 3 3/4 dram equivelent field loads just fine.

There is a reason they are no longer produced. Good concept, But never lived up to the hype. Know of 3 friends who had them and neither were satisfied.

I have one and it won't feed worth a damn. Feels like shells are getting hung up on the top of the chamber or pinched by the extractor when coming out of the mag tube. Since it happens when hand cycling, I don't think it is related to the type of load. I futz with it every 6 months or so because it is a DAMN nice pointing gun and shoots real well on occasion. Besides, since I know she has issues, I don't feel right selling her to someone else.

One thing to note is that there is a button you have to press to load EACH shell. Kind of annoying and a real inconveinence for competition.

Oh, I think I paid $250 for it (mostly to help out a friend).

Jason, Mossberg used a pretty cheap piece of nylon for the follower.
These nylon followers drag during feeding and cause most of the function problems.
Assembling the gas system incorrectly causes the rest.
These nylon followers are usually full of burrs and all nicked up and they get worse with use.

Simple fix is to replace that follower with an aluminum one from Brownells.
That little 3 minute job made a world of difference on my gun.

Hmm, I was browsing Brownells and see that Choate sells +2 to +5 mag extensions for the 9200 series. Anyone have any luck with these on a jungle gun (since it uses a simplified gas system from the regular 9200, I am not sure that they are compatible)? A +5 extension would be pretty sweet (and longer than the barrel, I think)! I did not find a replacement follower, but that is no surprise since the search engine isn't the best, IMHO. I'll look in the catalogue tonight.
