I recently received a Mossberg Mariner 9-shot for Christmas. I took it to the range and it functioned flawlessly for 50 rounds or so.

I did however run into an issue when cleaning the gun. It appears that the marine coat finish is chipping away inside of the receiver. There is chipped finish all along the bolt path and chipped finish where the barrel contacts the receiver.

There was enough chipped finish overall that I had to blow it out of the receiver before cleaning. I was fairly disappointed.

Is this a common problem with the Mossberg marine coating on their aluminum receiver? Should I be concerned and send the firearm back to Mossberg or should I just dust off the chipped finish and not worry about it?

Thanks!

Also: I should note the the finish isn't done chipping. I can feel several areas inside of the reciever that are now "crunchy" to the touch which is a sign that more finish will be coming off soon.
