Most Accurate Auto Cartridge - .25ACP?

If I hadn't shot it myself, I wouldn't have believed it. The recently acquired Colt .25 I got at a local gunshow was fired at 25 yards today on a reduced B29 target. It is shown with a B-27 target behind it. I thought I had flyers, mostly because I was standing two handed against a tree (to gain shade over the sights), and struggling to see the tiny sights. Even so, the five flyers would be in the 8-ring of the B-27 target. The other 8 shots would be easily in the 10 ring of the B-27. Photos. included. Ivory stocks were added after purchase.

It makes me laugh when I think back to my childhood. Back in jr. high, my friend and I got together as often as we could to go into the woods and shoot. We would use our dads' guns until we were allowed to have our own, and his dad had a Colt 1908 .25. I never liked it; it felt funny, with the grip safety, cost too much to buy ammo for, and wouldn't do anything right. Hard to shoot accurately, underpowered, and more expensive to feed than buying surplus 9mm for a P38 my dad bought for me in 1966. Fast forward 44 years. I find the little .25 is FUN to shoot, but I do have to reload for it to keep expenses down. It is just so darn easy to put in a pocket. My dad swears by his .25. He's a big man, with big hands, and the tiny gun looks like a toy about to be crushed in his mitts. It's a cheap saturday night special that my paranoid grandmother bought him 30 years ago.

He can take a match box off a fence post at 15 yards:eek: Expensive to shoot, but if shot placement really does count (and it does), he's got it covered.
 
Try an Astra Cub, the sights actually work well. I've been doing quite a bit of target work with mine, it's a large amount of fun in a very small gun. Now I'm reloading the tiny pills too, so money isn't a big deal in the equation.
Shown is a .25 ACP and .22 short model.
One of the things always mentioned about the .25 ACP is about what a miserable manstopper it is, but the fact is that 90% of why most of us own most of our guns is for range use. I shoot mine indoors in my shop, from this .22 short to my 10MM Dan Wesson. :)

The little round mushroom headed slugs are .22 shorts that have hit my UHMW plastic swinging target and have bounced off, they look like tiny mushroom caps. The UHMW spits them back out after they go in 1/4" and expand, the plastic relieves the pressure by spitting them back out! So much fun!
 
I believe this is the first time I've ever heard ".25 Auto" and "accuracy" in the same sentence. :D But there is no reason for it not to be accurate. These little guns have fixed barrels, therefore have (theoretically) greater accuracy potential than a moving barrel. Your accuracy is only really limited by the tiny grips and teensy sights.
