Folks;
I'm moving to North Carolina. Most likely going to reside in either Lee or Johnston Counties. I'm requesting info on range facilities within a 45 min drive. Preferably outdoor. I'm mostly a rifle shooter and would like at least a 100yrd facility. Public or private. Please assist. I'm moving away from an awesome range facility....moving's hard enough. Makes it a lot harder when you can't enjoy your favorite hobby. Thanks.

Well, depending on what part of Johnston county, you may not be too far from Drake Landing in Fuquay Varina. Wake Co. also operates a 100yrd indoor range. I mainly shoot handguns, so I'm not too up on the rifle ranges in the area.
You may want to ask this question over at www.carolinashootersforum.com

in stanly/anson/montgomery county there's nothing but poorly run and overly expensive private stuff. there used to be a pretty good public range but it is closed and there is no info published about when if ever it will be opened up again. if anyone knows of anything that contradicts what I just posted, please let me know. As for Johnston or Lee counties, I wish you luck but have no information.
if this post is a selfish thread hijack and anyone finds it offensive, let me know and I will get rid of it. I mean no ill will.

The Forest Service has a number of outdoor shooting ranges across the country. There are four shooting ranges on the National Forests in North Carolina, one on the Tusquitee Ranger District, one on the Cheoah Ranger district, and two on the Nantahala Ranger District.

I just found that. I don't know if those are near you, but hopefully it helps. They would all be public which usually means 30/year or 3/day.
