Been looking into a new rifle, been ALL OVER the place with decisions... (See the "CZ550 vs Steyr" and others. Saw the MSAR. Have a Steyr M40A1 (love it, btw).
So, have been scouring on MSARs...namely the STG556....as the E4 is out of my pricerange (> $1100).

Realistically, and preferred from MSAR owners - what's the scoop? This will be occasional plinking, future hunting (I know, semi-auto for hunting..but CXP2, maybe 3 tops),potential one-shot-accuracy around 0.5-1.75MOA. 200yds (max range, though able to touch to 300-350yds), and reliable. Reliable, I should say, as in not needing biannual checkups, or is able to be repaired from a local machine-shop if needed. I've read quite a few satisfied customers, yet also quite a few not-satisfied...
I like the IDEA of the bullpup for the lightweight agility, and versatility, but the proprietary nature of the AUG platform is sort of off-putting. Then again, my Steyr is in the same pickle.
Would an MSAR be any use SHTF? Just throwin' it out there :p

I have an E4 and it has been very reliable, I find it a fun plinker and just an all around neat little gun.

Would it be good as a hunter? Well not my first choice but it would work because I can hit the target with decent accuracy at 100 yards.

Would it be any use in a SHTF situation? Well again I said mine was reliable so it does go bang when you pull the trigger so I guess one could deduce, yes.

They look pretty cool. I had a chance to buy one once. It was in a complete "limited edition set" with a case, mags, a knife or bayonet, an optic and/or a scope mount or two. I foreget exactly now.

Anyhow I came close to pulling the trigger, until I pulled the trigger. I just can't love a gun without a good trigger and at least this example didn't have one.

I've got one set up with a left hand bolt and topped with an Elcan optic. I've never had a single malfunction with it. Accuracy is kinda crappy though. About 3" at 100 yards.

I have an E4 model. Minor issues with loading the occassional first round from the magazine, but that could be attributed to still being relatively new.

I would not get the STG556 model. The E4 is worth a few extra dollars for the additional options IMO.

Would not recommend for hunting. The primary advantage is compact design, which is good for tight quarters or automobiles.
