I was in one of my favorite gun shops yesterday and found two different weapons that I like very much. One of which is a Henry US Survival .22lr, the other is a Mossburg 500 that they have used but its got a really nice pistol grip set up. Anyway I asked them "You can run just one BG check for these together right". The CSR's answer was, no the ATF makes sure we run a check for EACH gun and yes you have to pay the $10 fee twice. I laughed and said alright I guess that's what we get.

I know gun shop talk is gun shop talk I was just wondering if this is a real law or not.

PS. Its not about the $10 its about the stupidity of it.

I bought multiple weapons just this week and guess what...... 1 check, 1 $10.00 fee. Either you got a complete marooon on your hands or he is just trying to burn you for an extra $10.00.

Load of crap. There's a reason you can list multiple firearms on the back of the 4473.

On a Monday, I bought 2 rifles and 1 pistol...on a single background check. Two days later, Wednesday, I bought 2 more rifles...on a single background check.

Both background checks were, free of charge, on each day. You will note on the federal papers that there are three lines for firearms being purchased.

Unless Oregon law allows this (which I doubt, it's a federal form) bring this up with that store's manager/owner. All a store tells the FBI NICS rep is what kind of firearm, i.e. handgun or long gun or both, not how many. Exception is a multiple handgun purchase, which requires an additional form be sent to the FBI (but not an additional check). In your case, a multiple long gun purchase is a matter of a single background check. One handgun and multiple long guns is still one check with no other special reporting needed. A store can also do multiple background checks at the same time, i.e. not ony checking you but another customer. His CSR is knowingly/unknowingly ripping off customers, which makes him the anti-CSR. Ask for a refund or credit towards ammo.

Just picked up 2 long guns this week, one NICS check and one 4473.

I did have to fill out two forms for the state though.

Please check with the FFL. Oregon has some sort of state $10 fee during firearns purchse.

or just buy your guns from that guy with all the tatoos that stops by Bob's Beer and Bait every so often. He doesn't charge a cent for no stinkn' background check.

I believe you can put 3 firearm SN on the form 4473. You are able to purchase multiple firearms, but pistols are a little different. If you purchase 2 or more pistols at the same time, the FFL dealer must complete additional paperwork for the ATF. Also, if you purchase 2 or more pistols from the same FFL dealer within a 4 day period, the additional paperwork to the ATF is required as well.

Last year, I bought two pistols from the same gun shop and the additional paperwork was completed. It wasn't a big deal because it did not require anything from my part. Before anyone gets all alarmed about the ATF having that information about me, not a big deal because I have my fingerprints on file for my class III.

My local shop says that, as long as I haven't left the store, they can put up to five firearms on a 4473 even after the NICS call. They remind me of this each time I take a second look at the case after I have my first (firearm( purchase in hand and headed for the door.
