Long story short My self built rock island 1911 in 38 super was stolen.

I am looking for another 38 super to replace it with. Since I have so much 38 super ammo mags and reloading equipment.

Any one have experience with the tarus 1911 in 38 super? Are there any other bells and whistle models for $700 or less?

I would hate to go through all the trouble of building another 1911 since my local parts guy has closed shop.

Colt!

New or used!

Sorry to hear your pistol was stolen. If I remember you did have quite a bit of work in it.

Sorry for your loss.:( At least you can take comfort in picturing the look on the BG's face when he tries to load .45's in the pistol, 'cause you just know he thinks it is a "fowty five":D

Look into an EAA Match in 38 Super - they go for less than $500 if I recall, and they are very nice guns, and strong as hell. I've been running mine (and these have polygonal barrels) on 9x23 Winchester ammo and have duplicated 357 SIG performance, which means getting a Speer 125 grain Gold Dot up to 1450 fps. Standard deviation of velocity was only 6 FPS using VV3N37 powder, and all you have to do is throw a 22# recoil spring into the gun. And yes, the chamber accepts 9x23 brass with no reaming - not a surprise since this gun was set up for IDPA/IPSC just a couple of years ago, and I'm sure they set the chamber for the 9x23 class of case rather than the old sucky and semi-rimmed original 38 Super case.

Yes it was a stock gi then I modified the snot out of it. I already miss my 1.5 pound trigger I doubt I will ever see a trigger like that again.

I have looked at eaa but have seen some real problems with mags and reliability in the past. Still looking for any one with experience on the s8 super tarus 1911's

I would like new if I can but might have to settle for used.

Ditto, but used nuts throw poorly.
Almost spit out my apple cobbler!

I have a Colt and Springfield in .38 Super. I like them both and could recommend either. I cannot get past the lock in the hammer on the Taurus guns.

I can understand why you want another .38 Super.

I saw a Colt (I believe) 38 super 1911 today for 735.00 + tax. It looked really nice. I went to 3 different gun shops - it's amazing to see the same guns with such highly diverse prices. One shop had nice prices on Kahr, another had Kahr priced so high - they'll never sell. It's as if some owners just use specific lines of pistols as place holders in the display case.

Each guy seems to think "stupid" will walk in and not know anything about a particular brand and just buy it without checking. I'm sure it happens but it's kind of an obtuse way of doing business.

Off topic again, but the Kahrs have such great semi-dao triggers.

On topic - i saw 2 or 3 para arms 1911's under 700.00. And yes, the Taurus 1911's are good pistols. So are their PT-92 types.

oh no.........I wonder how that effects triger pull, I just read they have series 80 parts too...........not too sure on these now, I really like 3 pound and under triggers can it be done?

Sorry about your loss. But Rock Island also makes a .38 super. Just get one that's factory built. Just an idea. Seen them listed on Sarco.

I have the Witness Elite Match in 38 Super and 45 ACP, both excellent guns,
each pistol has well over 5,000 rounds thru them with not one problem with either one.
The triggers are very crisp with very little take up and with the match barrel makes a fine shooter.:)

Thats what I had but then I modified the whole gun. All the usual stuff.

For the eaa do these come with a decocker? If not how hard is it to install a wide thumb safety? You know like a 1911 wide safety? What about trigger jobs?

The Elite Match pistols have a wide thumb saftey, no decocker and certainly don't need a trigger job.
On the Match you can rack the slide with the safety on, I really like that. I like the Elite pistols much better then my CZ's.
I shoot with guys that have top end 1911's and they are impressed with the Witness Match pistols.

thanks floydster for the info I am reasearching this subject. Where can I find hi-cap mags for that? Do you have an internet source for that gun?

Mec Gar makes hi cap mags.
Goggle Buds Gunshop or Sniper Country PX.

They seem to be out of stock soon after they get them in.

They have gone up $$$ in the last six months.

I just located a 38super taurus at a local shop. I think I will go look at it thursday.

My local ffl buddy can get the eaa at will too. I am reluctant on both.

Taurus because of the goofy 80 and lock parts(which a complete trigger job will fix with replacement of the fcg.

The eaa because of past experience with numberous bad mags, although that was in the hay day of the hi-cap ban.

The plus side taurus its a 1911 and I can work on them

eaa, atleast on the eleit it has a good reputation.

I wont have insurance money for another week so I will be studious until then and try to find something suitable.

All other suggestions will be most welcome
