Two posts, as of this instant. Hmm.

Suggest you use the search function, up top, and search on Jennings.

but let me know what yall think of the gun

Had one. Didn't care for it.

Use the search.

Hell, why not be stoked if it's his first gun? He will move on to bigger and better things as time goes by. :)

No gun snobbery from me-- I own a J22 and 2 JA22.

Are they perfect out of the box? Not usually.

They are cheap, need some TLC and F&B--

But they are FUN...

Just shoot Stingers or CCI Mini-Mags, and you will be ok-- and don't expect that they are custom range target pretties--

they are what the are.

Enjoy!

oh, and check out here--find out all you want to know...

I owned one. It broke multiple times and jammed constantly. Every conceivable type of jam -- failure to feed, failure to extract, failure to eject, failure to fire, stovepipe. What have I missed?

Well, you asked.

"A great plinker to learn the basic" would be a Ruger Mark I,II or III.

We have a fairly new shooter here. Welcome to THR, johnboy9689!

Now, you guys can decide whether to add him to the ranks, or chase him off by ridiculing his choices.

Let's remember the name of the forum. In case you forgot, it's at the top of your screen.

well if the government gives us all that 600$ i wana go buy a tarus or a S&W
hammerless revolver to me the sight of a revolver is alot more intimadating than the sight of a semi auto but i do know i want something that can fit in my pocket so for now the Jennings will have to do i do live in birmingham al. i think were like 3rd in the country for murder and crime so i need a gun now not later:D one more question do i need a pocket holster for my J-22?

I would suggest a Browning Buckmark or a Ruger Mk. I, II, or III. They are reliable, far more accurate, and to be honest, you are not endangering your safety by shooting these guns as long as you follow the four rules.

I suggest this route because Jennings' pistols are generally considered to be the lowest quality handguns one can buy, regardless of price.

My advice: Buy a good .22 pistol to gain some skills and get some good trigger time. Once you feel comfortable with it, buy something else in a sufficient self-defense caliber if you are interested in concealed carry.

Anything .38 Special and up for revolvers, and 9mm and up for autoloaders. Once you are confident with this gun and know how they operate internally and externally, concealed carry is a great idea after the proper training and certification.

If you just want something for plinking, a .22 rifle is my choice. A Jennings that may (or may not) jam all the time is not fun and not safe. A good .22 pistol is quite a lot of fun, a decent .22 rifle, when you can hit absolutely anything you want within 50-100 yards is TONS of fun.

Very well said...

I am from Bama too, johnboy9689. Welcome to THR.

+1 on mdviney.

spend a little more $$, and you can get a pistol that you won't take a beating on when you inevitably want to upgrade in the near future.

I hate to say it, but as a general rule the more you spend on the weapon and the ammo the more enjoyable it wil be to shoot.

S&W police buyback .38 revolvers are inexpensive, reliable and accurate for the price.

welcome to the shooting sports.

That's kind of what I was thinking. Anyway, welcome to THR and have fun with your new gun.

Is it just me, or does it seem like some of the people here are getting mean.

Congrats on your first handgun! Oh and welcome to the forum!

A Jennings wouldn't be my first choice to be honest, but to each his own. If you are happy with the gun and you like it then it shouldn't matter what others think. I've owned plenty of guns in the past that people like to ridicule, sometimes they are right and other times I can't understand the hate.

Enjoy your new gun and save up for a Glock or Sig down the road;)

Welcome johnboy9689!
I understand where you are coming from. I bought a Hi-Point .40 cal new for $170. It is heavy, ugly and shoots straight. I heard many mixed reviews. I bought it anyways. I used it to learn semi-autos and some basic safety. I also used it for the proficiency portion of my CHL class. That gave me about 2 month to research and save for a better gun. However, I have over 1,000 rounds through the Hi-Point with only 3 jams. I really do like the gun for a truck or under the mattress gun. I am purchasing a S&W M&P .40 very soon for my carry weapon.
Welcome again to the ranks!

k want somehing now and i dont wana go over 200$

Lot's of options, especially in used. These are centerfire guns that I paid under $200 for:

Up the budget to $300, and you have many more options:

I have about a dozen .22's that were under $300 and much higher quality than the Jennings. If you really want a brand new, inexpensive, pocketable .22, the little Phoenix HP-22 is far superior to the Jennings. You can aslo get a "range kit" for the phoenix, that consists of a 5" barrel and an extended magazine baseplate for the pinky finger to grasp. I paid $107 for my HP-22 two years ago, and another $35 for the range kit. It's actually a very accurate little gun with a pretty decent trigger. It's not gona last tens of thousands of rounds, but it is a fun little plinker that has proven quite reliable.

It sounds like you are looking for a pocket pistol for under $200. Try and find a Kel-Tec P32 or P3AT used... they can be had for under $200 if you search hard.
