i was remodeling a house and removed a wall to find hidden -- an old marlin model 27 slide action rifle.it has no serial number only patent dates i dissasembled it oiled it up ,and off to my local gun smith i ran .he looked it over and said it should shoot but its missing the magazine spring being tube fed ,he located a spring and sold same to me for five dollars. but he said he only works on big dollar guns, weatherbys and such and didnt have the time or reference books to fix the rifle , i have searched the web now for three years and no info on the length of that spring can i find ,the one i have is about 4 feet long and no way can it be stuffed jammed into the mag tube ,needs to be cut down to fit I was told. im asking here if anyone has one ,or knows what the proper length would be ? im very new here and this is my first post asking what i need to get this back in the rack with my other collectable firearms ,ill be back and from what ive read here it appears to be a very good and useable site for info on my old firearms reply to [email protected]

marlin info

gentlemen i have searched the web for three years now!almost every day,i have been to many sites for the parts that i need for my marlin mod 27 with no luck. i found a local gun smith who yesterday said to bring it on over. but remember i only work on weatherbys and very few HIGH dollar guns , after my trip to see him, he had that marlin repeating as if it were new in ten minutes.. measureing it/the spring and made about three cuts to the four foot length i had brought with me ,it is all fixed ,now the cost part, as he said he would do it for me ,i figgured something simple for a guy with experience to do ,at 75.00 bucks for ten minutes work ,its now fixed ,wont be going back any time soon .but i thanked him ,he asked if he could hunt the land i own he should have asked that before he charged me the 75.00 and not after oh well i was so happy to get my rifle fixed and said sure hunt it all you want , then he charged me, but after i paid i asked what he thought the rifle was worth? he said point blank ,that at a gun show he could get as much as 500.00 for it,it is in very nice shape for being over 80 years old . told me if i wanted to sell it to give him first bite>> im gonna wait and see how he hunts my land ,if i find one beer can and down fences ill be putting him in a freezer some place tim582001

***? :what:

Glad you got the magazine spring in and working.

A $75 price tag for doing just that ?? If so, a guy who doesn't deserve to hunt your land unless he pays for the privilage . I'd call him up and tell him you changed your mind .
