Hi All
I happened into this deal about about 5 years ago.

I was cruzing the websight in the late mornings like I normaly do. I came accross an add that said he had some reloading equipment to sell. Seller wanted to sell it as a lot for $550.00 Clamed there was over a $1000.00 worth of it. Local sale only! Ya right I think. So I give the guy a call and aske what all he has? He tells me he has the machine, some bolt things (Dies) brass, powder, bullet, some loaded ammo and a bunch of other stuff. I ask if I can come by and take a look at it around lunch time? Sure he says. Before hanging up I ask what color is the machine, Green (thinking RCBS maybe a RockChucker) or Red (thinking Hornaday or lee of some sort)? Naw its BLUE he says. Told him I will be over in the next hour or so. Scoot over to the bank and get $550. out in cash with a mix of bills and make track to the guys house.

I meet with the seller and he tells me that this was his dads equipment and he has no use for it. Its been sitting in the garage for a year or so and he wants to clean the place out. We haul out three or four boxs on to the drive way and open them up. I didn't even haggle the price with him. Just handed him the money and loaded into my truck.

I got.
1, 550B reloading press
2, sets of 44Mag dies with the caliber conversions.
2, sets of 45LC dies with the caliber conversions.
1, set of 38spl/357mag dies with out the conversion kit.
1, set of 45acp dies with the conversion.
500 rounds of reloaded 454Casall ammo
1000 rounds of 44mag ammo
100 or so rounds of 45acp reloaded ammo
a bag full of 40S$W and 9mm ammo.
1 of the big dillon tumblers
1 of the big dillon case seporators
1 dillon elemanator scale
5 box of Hornaday XTP Bullts in varrious calibers from above
4 dillon quick change tool heads with the powder die and powder droper.
5 dillon cartridge counters
a box of miss gun stuff, MTM boxs, Outers electronic gun cleaning kit, cleaning supplys and other stuff. Miss loading tools like the caliper, beveling tool, primer pocket cleaners, bullet puller and so on.
4 1Lbs cans of AA #9
1 4 Lbs jug of AA #9
1 1 Lbs can of Win 296

When I first saw it I thought I hit the Jackpot. While a lot of it I didn't load for or own I knew I could sell it pretty easy. The only critical part missing from the press was one of the pins that hold the tool head in place. By the time I finished selling off all the stuff I couldn't use or didn't want to hold onto for a while as spare, I got my $550. back and still had the press,45acp setup, 38/357 setup and one of the 44mags. The tumbler, case seperator, all the 44brass and most of the XTP bullets (I didn't want the 300grn ones). The powder and the quick change kits.

In fact I just recently started to use the AA#9 powder.

I just had to share this with y'all

I never win anythng, always miss the big sales, and constantly hear about everyone else found treasure!
So glad to hear of your lucky strike.

Outstanding find.

What did you end up doing with the reloaded ammo? I don't know if I could bring myself to shoot reloads of unknown origin, especially in cartridges as powerful as 44 mag or 454 Casull.

About three years ago at a yard sale where they had mostly clothes, the wife said go pay for the baby clothes she had at the ladies table. Under the table I bumped into a box. I backed up to see what I'd kicked and saw a handle sticking out of the box. Inside was a RCBS Rockchucker. I asked how much? Three dollars. There was a new in the box RCBS die set in 357 magnum in the bottom of the box.

Last year at auction I bought around 30# of assorted powder for $17. Amazing since the guns at the sale were bringing $100-150 more than a gun store would sell them for.

Dillon 550 press
Rock Chucker press
13 calibers of dies
5 powder drops with tool heads
RCBS electronic scale
RCBS case trimmer
Five thousand rifle primers
Assorted brass (Thousands)
Assorted projectiles

I was new to reloading, the bed of my truck was full, I was pouring with sweat from hauling all this to my truck so I left. Still kicking myself for what I didn't pick up while I was there. $150

I bought a Dillon RL 550B for $150 almost exactly one year ago.
The guy bought it in 1993 & never set it up.
Paint was perfect, came with one set of dies & caliber conversion kit (45-70 gov).

I don't own a 45-70, so I sold the dies/conv kit & bought a couple of conversion kits for calibers I do reload.

Wow, you guys are lucky! I never find any reloading stuff anywhere I go. I don't frequent garage sales a LOT, but now and then. Not even hardly anything reloading related on craigslist. :(

There are deals out there. About four years back I was discussing some printing for my business with a printer I've used, and in his back door walks a guy I've seen a few times at a local range. He works for the printer. He asks if I've been shooting lately, and we make some small talk. Then the printer asks me if I know anything about reloading, and my ears perk up. Well his uncle died a few months before this discussion, and this fellow got a lot of reloading stuff and doesn't know what to do with it.

We go back to look at it, and I see a stack of cases of Accurate and Winchester powder as tall as I am, plus some cans sitting on the floor. In all he has over 350 pounds of powder, several large boxes of assorted pistol brass, and three large boxes of rifle brass. I asked him what he wanted for all of it and he popped right back with "Well I'd like to get a thousand dollars for it all." I couldn't whip out my wallet fast enough.

Most of the powder I kept and the rest I sold at the next gun show. All of it was new unopened cans and none appeared to be more than 2-3 years old.

That's the only time I've stumbled onto a great deal like that. I keep looking though.

I painstakingly pulled everyone of them down. Sold off the 300grn 44 bullets and all of the 454 bullets. Used the powder from the pull down on the lawn. Sold the 454 brass and keept the 44Mag brass. I still have some of it sitting out by my bench with the primers still in it. I am going to try and resize the brass and reload it for use in my S&W 29.

you should be ashamed of yourself!

I am sort of, thats why this the first time I have told of it. Its honistly the best deal I have ever fell in on. No free guns or anything like that so this is my one big one.

My brother in law set me up with a RC and a case trimmer, lube pad and a few other things for about 70 bucks. It was all extra stuff he had so he new what it was really worth.

then a year ago I came across a guy who was selling primers that were his grandfathers I got 3,000 primers for 30 bucks. I even told him they were worth about 30 bucks per thousand. I should have bought the small primers he had as well but oh well.

This is why I never understand why folks new to reloading rush out and buy a new Lee press, proud of all the money they saved. If a fella bides his time, high quality used equipment can always be had. Just takes a little patience.

Congrats on your find.

A few bargins I have found:

Ohler 35P chronograph $190.00
About 20 or so MTM 100 rd rifle ammo boxes $20.00
10 ingot molds,different brands $20.00
10 boxes Sierra 150gr 30cal bullets $100.00

Bargins are still out there, Lightman

The incredible bargains may indeed be out there, but on internet forums they seem to be fewer and farther apart these days, especially on bullets. Seems like folks look up the price of new items on the net then price their item accordingly even if they paid $6.00 per hundred a few years ago.

Tell me. I posted an add wanting to buy 10mm brass. Once fired or new, but I would take range brass if I could find it. I got a couple of offers and went to check the price aginst what I paid for it on line from a dealer. The dealer had brand new Starline in stock for $5.00 less then the offer on range pickup by the 100 count. I have run into the same thing with 357Mag brass. 30Carbine and a couple of others. This is one of the things I still find from time to time at the gunshows that you can still get a deal on.

I think that part of the problem is that during the Obama scare sale, just about anything would sell at any price. Now that things have calmed down a bit (not totlay mind you) the prices seem high. Some times were our own worst ememy.

Oh well, times change. It just takes longer now to find what your looking for somtimes and you have to pay a bit more.

I found a CraigsList add for a "reloading business". The guy was asking $900 for 4 Lee Pro-1000's, a Lyman and a CH press plus. No one would talk to him and he was disgusted. I went over and he dropped to $700 while I was just looking over the equipment. He had been reloading and had to move, so he had boxed everything in an orderly fashion. I ended up with about 8 of those large plastic storage boxes full of equipment. Lots of Dillon stuff. About 16 pounds of powder, 10,000 mixed primers, 34 complete die sets, etc. It filled up the entire bed of my Ranger pu truck. Ended up buying everything for $600.

If you'll keep your eyes open and have cash, you'll see deals like that.
