Since I purchased my Bull Dog I have been very verbal about it's non performance. Charter Arms even replaced it for me, after a few attempts to make it go bang. I have had it to the range 3 previous times in the past year or so, It fired but did not feel right, and did not provide me with the accuracy that I am used too. Today I fired 50 wonderful rounds all within a 4.5 inch group at 25 feet, I believe thay I will be able to now trust this weapon to protect me and my family . I feel that the caliber and size and price, will now serve the initial intention as the weapon for my vehicle.

I have the Bull Dog .357 and love it! I am glad you got it worked out. The only thing I wish was it had better sights.

Excuse me but do I understand you correctly that you fire a big bore short barrel revolver 3 times a year 50 rounds per trip and you were surprised that it didn't feel right or produce accuracy? Now after 1 good day you are ready to protect yourself and family in your vehicle?

Perhaps we are very different but my experience dictates that this revolver is more difficult to master than lesser calibers and/or longer barrels. I would certainly need more practice and more frequent practice to gain and maintain the proficiency to have such confidence. Expensive in .44 spl? Yes, but perhaps not as costly as not doing so.

It definitely requires more than 3 trips to a range in a year to acquire and maintain skill with a handgun, especially if you're talking about a revolver fired DA. Or SA for that matter.

I seem to have misunderstood the situation. By viewing your previous posts I see you are an experienced shooter and reloader. You seem to be discussing the experience you had in getting a defective example corrected by Charter rather than "learning" the gun.

My apologies for jumping to an unwarranted conclusion.

In my defense I have experience with a '70s Charter Arms .44 Bulldog and it isn't my choice for a beginner. Uncomfortable and hard to master but a true hammer in the right hands. I'm sure you will agree with us being an experienced handgunner yourself and will take no offense from well intended error.

I own, carry and most importantly shoot a Bulldog 3". I reload and fortunately can step out my back door to shoot. I must run 75 to 100 rounds a week to try and stay proficient but gotta do it.

I have the older 44 bulldog...

made about 30 years ago and like it. I reload it and have had no trouble with it. It has been a companion on many occasions and I still carry it from time to time. Just looking at those big bullets give me some piece of mind. It is not a range gun but it is a manstopper for sure.

Glad you got the problems worked out.
The Charter Arms Bulldog is an awesome little package, and a great caliber.
You can always send it to Mag-Na-Port for a tune up! ;)

Whitecoyote , that is one the best looking ...

44 specials that I have seen. Tell us more about how you had this done etc. And, how does it shoot with the porting. Is it louder and is the recoil much less???

Thanks for the accolades.
It's a package that Mag-Na-Port offers (forget the name at this time).
It shoots just fine with the porting, and is not any louder. Felt recoil does feel less.

Just an FYI, Charter is making 1000 only of the original 3" Bulldog and will begin shipping in a month of so. Talked with the cute chickie at the Charter display at the NRA Annual Meeting in Charlotte and it's a spittin' image of the piece my wife was carrying when I first met her... it was love at first sight :D

5gr Titegroup, 180gr cast (WW) WC's will make that gun shoot like a kitten. Hunter's Supply has 160gr pills for that gun as well. Start lite and work up. Mag-na-port $$$$ - sure does look good!
