My first handgun

Its been 10 months but I finally got my concealed carry permit. So I looked at the local shop to see what they had and ended up buying a glock 34. One thing i dont get about this gun is the giant hole on the front top of the slide. Does this serve a purpose? Also, what does everyone think of this gun?

The hole cuts down on the weight of the longer slide.

I like Glock for concealed carry. I have something a bit smaller but from your screen name I'm guessing you're used to a Beretta so it should work for you. Also, the longer slide = longer sight radius so it's easier to be more accurate at greater distance.
