Hello, i was at a local gunstore and found the handgn i want. Its a ruger Gp-100. 4 inch barrel, stainless, with adj sights and chambered for .357 magnum. Just what im looking for.
So, ill probly go tomarrow and look at it, and then take the money to purchase it on monday. My grandpa is actually buying it for me in his name until i turn 21. Then its a title transfer to me. I hate the fact we cant get rugers anymore here in md. so when i saw this one i had to have it.

BTW, where can i get different grip inserts?

Good on ya!

My first gun was a 4" 686P. A .357 revolver makes a great first gun. I really love mine. I think you'll like your Ruger very much.

Inserts:

http://www.lettgrips.com/

NOTE: there are two sizes of Ruger GP100 grips. Adjustable sight guns come stock with the larger "square butt profile" grip while fixed-sight models have a smaller "round butt-like" grip (which is also shorter, much like an SP101 grip although not directly compatible).

If your GP100 is used, it's barely possible it's been swapped. If you have smaller hands and/or the reach to the trigger seems long, if you're pondering replacement insert panels it wouldn't be much extra to swap to the smaller rubber grip core and use smaller inserts. Browse the Ruger website and pull up pics of the guns in question, you should be able to confirm which type you have now.

Letts has everything you need to convert each direction. The frame is the same, so the adjustable-sight guns can easily swap to the smaller grip.

Just remember that the proper inserts have to match the proper rubber core.

Congrats SlimJim!
As Jim replied, Letts is the place for inserts as they make the stock ones for Ruger. But.........I just ordered a pair for my SRH and 2 days after getting my on-line order confirmation I received an e-mail that they are "not at this time" selling any replacement/custom grips or inserts, and also stated that they had not up-dated thier website with this info yet. They cancelled my order. Don't know why??? Enjoy your new 100 !

You'll keep that revolver forever too....
I still have the first handgun and rifle I ever bought, though I never use them. It's a strange thing, that sentimentality. ;)

BTW, you can't go wrong with a Ruger GP100.

Yes, i love rugers, they make a fine gun. I own 2 of them already, a mini 30 and 10/22. Both are joys to shoot.

I like how the Gp feels in my hand, with the larger grip. Thats why i went with a revolver, the 1911 grip is just so uncomfortable to me, and this is comming from the guy who wanted a 1911 as his first handgun.

Slimjim, I have the same model. It was my first double-action revolver. With about 600 rounds of .38 special and 200 rounds of .357 magnum through it, the gun still functions flawlessly and looks new. An excellent choice for your first gun.

First pistol

My first pistol was a Ruger 22 auto #55255 and I had to bring home a rabbit for every shot or had to use the family Model 62 Winchester pump 22 rifle instead. Boy did I concentrate and snuck up on thise rabbits. Of course that was a long time ago when the Ruger came on the market. My ability to concentrate on my shooting worked well for me the rest of my life.
