My First Hunt

Hey all,

I had posted about finally wanting to go hunting on another thread ("my eyes have been opened - I want to go hunting") - I was not the OP of that thread, btw. Anyway, I am leaving tomorrow morning for bear hunting in the Chiricahua mountains in southeastern Arizona. I've camped there for years, and know of several spots that have regular bear sign. Got all my licenses and tags and gear and am ready to go. I'm bringing my 6.5 x 55 Swede carbine, and my .22 LR (Hope to bring a few rabbits home, as well). Also bringing my Ruger GP100 as a backup. (Hey, you can never have too many guns in the woods, right?) Wish me luck - I'll be out Fri, Sat and Sun.

Got back last night - didn't get anything, but had a lot of fun. I picked the right area - I saw several piles of fresh scat about a half-mile from my camp, and ran into a couple of other hunters who said they spotted two bears a couple of miles up the mountain from me. Maybe next time!
