Here we are with deer season behind us just a tail of squirrel season left and just over a month of rabbit left. I just picked up a Stevens model 67 12ga for rabbit hunting (and trap later but that's a different thread). Even though I haven't had any luck so far, due mainly to poor hunting spots, I have completely enjoyed every moment.

So to anyone who is thinking of starting hunting, do it. Get a mentor to show you the ropes. Get a gun borrow/buy whatever. Know your 4 safety rules for gun handling. Get out there and do it.

I see people asking what they need to start out. A gun/bullets, some boots to tromp through the mud, season appropriate clothes. That is the minimum, really. If you think about hundreds of years ago they didn't have full camo clothes with scent blocking technology, at the most they had a bottle of deer piss to cover up their scent (which some people do now). I'm not saying that all that fancy stuff doesn't help, it does, but its expensive. If you are on a budget like me, and you wait to have all the extra camo gear, scent block blah blah blah, it will be a while before you can afford to go.

Best time I have had this year outside of holding my 5mo old has been in the woods making noises at squirrel with a cigar and shooting the breese with my best bud. Did we take some? He did....I missed:p It's ok there's plenty more. So Get there, take a friend, take your kids, your wife, that weird guy down the street that has that eye that looks off to the side while you are talking.....you know the one. Just get out there support the sport, support our 2A.

I appreciate you letting me blab here for a bit.

Forgot to add check your local laws for blaze coverage(hat, vest etc.) for minimal hunting gear.
