Picked up my first N Frame yesterday, and thought I'd share. It's a 25-9 with a 6" barrel in 45 Colt. It's in amazing condition for a 18 year old gun, and I have a hard time finding evidence of it ever being fired more than a handful of times or carried at all. It came with a Galco Pheonix holster that looks to be unused.

I'm looking forward to working up some loads for it. All 6 chamber mouths mic'ed at .451, so it should be a real nice shooter. The blueing on my 586-1 is very dark, almost flat, whereas this thing is a more translucent blue that seems to be miles deep. All in all, I'm pleased as punch. This thing is definately a keeper.

That's a beauty. The main problem with N-frames is they come in too many calibers and configurations. All of those models, including one like yours, are tempting and torturing me by sitting just outside my budget boundaries:(.

Sweet. I have an older 25-5. It isn't nearly as nice looking as yours, but I love to shoot it. It's a definite favorite.

Friend sold me a 25-5 with and 8 3/8th's" barrel for $85. Yes, $85.

Why?

The previous owner fired some bad rounds.....sequentially..... By the time he either figured out something was wrong, or that the idea of "shooting them out" wasn't working, he had four bulges in the barrel.

I called S&W, found they had ONE 5" barrel in a drawer and sent the gun off for a new barrel. Cost was $200, + the $85, - the $55 for the stupid grips that I sold on Epay, along with the bulged barrel for another $35, I have $195 in the gun.

A 5" non-lugged barrel is ideal on the N frame.
