My Gunshow Nagant Revolver

Picked up a Nagant revolver at a local gun show today for $139.99. I remember these going for under $100 in recent years, but at todays show this one the only one I saw, and since I wanted to add one to my Man Cave WWII collection, I figured I'd buy it. It is stamped 1939, by Tula. At a glance I notice a star symbol on the trigger guard, trigger, and h ammer. Otherwise I don't know anything about these guns, and I am looking forward to researching it on some of the guns sites. I do have a few questions in the meantime. 1) The cylinder rotates with the hammer down. Is this normal? Locks up tight with the hammer back. 2) There is a little square symbol next to the serial number. Is this a refurb mark? 3) What is the going price for these today? If anyone has any informative sights about this revolver, I'd appreciate a link. Thanks, Doug.

the cylinder is fine, its supposed to do that, you should get a better picture of that mark.
and i bought mine last june for $89, but the most common price i see is $100 to $120.
have you shot it yet, the damn trigger pull is ****ing unholy! im about to start ****in around with mine to see if i can improve it.
 
I've got one that I paid $70.00 or so for, plus twenty or so bucks for shipping. I've got a C&R, so I didn't have to worry about an FFL fee. Add that to what I paid, and you're right about what you paid, so I'd say you got a decent price.

I've never shot mine but I get a kick out of handling it. The D/A is heavy, but it's not as bad as I feared it it would be from reading the internet. The S/A isn't bad.

It's a neat piece of history if nothing else.

The Russians and the Finns had a simple "field expedient" method of improving the Nagant's notoriously heavy trigger, and it apparently worked quite well. It consisted of putting a small metal shim in between the leaf spring and the front strap of the grip. You may have to play around and try several to find the right size that will do the job for your particular revolver, but if you make it the right size, and make sure it's a wide as the front strap, so that the grip panels hold it securely in either side, it can't come loose inside the grip and rattle around. The DA trigger pull on mine measures 13.8lbs.:what:

Look into some of the .32ACP cylinders and .32S&W cylinders for these. Makes it abit cheaper to shoot and more versatile. I have heard, but have not seen, that there is even a .32H&R cylinder available.
