So, being a die hard 1911 whacko, I have decided to put the first project 1911, my MEUSOC RIA, what I call the MEUSOC ROCK on the back burner and do up the RIA tactical I am picking up Friday.

I am going to throw a few dollars into this gun for many reasons, one is because I can afford to since the gun was free, NIB in a trade, two because even if I did have to pay money for it, it is cheap enough so if I even put 500 into it, it will be every bit as good or better than a 1911 I paid 900 NIB for.

Seriously all I am going to do is a total refinish, and a trigger job and sights and a set of grips and magwell. Since it already has all the needed farkles on it unlike the RIA GI, it will not cost nearly as much as having to do trigger, hammer beaver tail, and sending the slide out to have good sights put on it.

Before pic gleaned off the net since mine isn't here yet.

+1 I am looking forward to seeing the finished product.

I am currently waiting on my dealer to get a 9mm tactical model in. I plan to make it a DET-1 clone, and later down the road do a MEUSOC (ish) clone as well.

Funny you should mention a MEUSOC clone, here's my orher project.

I call it Project MEUSOC ROCK.

Great job on that one SX... I'm looking forward to seeing what becomes of the next one.

Cruisin' looking for Det-1 posts and found this. These are my MEUSOC pistols built by their armorer Mark P a ways back. he saved an old cracked frame Colt for one and I had a bunch of IMI NM slides so that's the top on and the bottom one started as an unfired SA 1911. The one on the left is one of my Det-1 pistols (the shooter) without the rail mounted yet. Have fun MEUSOCin'! And the top one is my open carry gun. As advertised - it gets nasty and always runs.

Thanks! It seems like a lot of fellow Iowans know exactly what I'm talking about, and everyone else just goes: "Huuhhhh?" Glad someone else got it. :)

im taking my GI RIA and and compact RIA out this afternoon to see if they can equal my AC Commander.......

ive been shooting each and stowing without cleaning. each trip gets oil on the rails and hood then loaded up with fmj.......so far each has a little over 200 rounds (ive lost count) without a bobble.......todays trip will be the last one before i give them a scrubbing.

Seriously all I am going to do is . . .

Oh how many times I have said that as I start a project only to have more and more "well just this too" things to add as well.
