My m1a is complete!

I was told to put pictures up when I was done. Well, here it is. I just put on my Sadlak aluminum scope mount, and my Burris fulfiled scope.
I have a pretty clear sight picture for the open sights, so that is something I wasn't expecting. I hope to take it out this weekend, so we will see how it goes!

You will need a raised cheek piece. There is no adjustment for eye relief due to the nature of the mount, so you will have to lean way into the scope to get a view. I got dinged over the eyebrow. The mount I used sat so low that when I cranked up the elevation to get on paper, the mount cut into the view and I couldn't use them.

OH, I plan on getting one. I was fearing you were going to say the m1a scope mount attempts are all failures! Wondering if I should buy a cheek rest, or just wrap something around the stock...
Other than that, how do you like your system? everything holding up together well? Everything seems pretty tight on the rifle...
 
Take a look at Desert Warrior Products. They make a quality adjustable cheek rest that can be installed by the average joe and a drill. I know, since I was able to install one.

Gives you an appreciation for those men that served over in VN and had to shoot the scoped M14/M21 with no riser. I imagine cheek welds became chin welds.

I do not subject any of my rifles to any abuse. I don't use them as golf clubs, or don't throw them around :)
Never heard anything bad about Sadlaks aluminum mounts.

Oh, I wasn't trying to suggest that you would abuse it. Sadlak makes excellent stuff.

No problems with my Sadlak aluminum mount, starting year five on the rifle. I believe Sadlak intended for the irons to be used with the scope off and allow the mount to remain mounted to the rifle. I have plenty of room to move the scope even with the extra wide Burris Xtreme Tactical rings.

You well need some kind of cheek pad/raiser. The strap on pad I have could be 3/8" inch lower. I have a extra glass stock I may put a Desert Warrior on. They look very solid and adjustable.

If I win the lotto I want one of these SAI stocks.

The scoped M1A has taken a back seat to my scoped AR-10, I still shoot the iron sight rifle considerably.

That Sadlack looks like an aluminum version of my Brookfield Precision steel mount.
 
Can you use that ghost ring while using the scope, do you have to take the whole assembly off?
I saw a video of a guy who took a whole cleaning kit out of the butt of his wood stock: is that true of their synth stocks?
People say they can hit out to 600 yards: because I've never shot the 'balls off a mosquito' I would love to know exactly how good (off the bench) this gun is?

Very nice gun: currently this is on top of my wish list. I'm coveting pretty good right now ;).
 
Last time I shot my M1a, I shot the best groupings I ever have. I got a 1.4'' 3 shot grouping with open sights. I hope to get under 1 inch consistently with the glass.

The M1A is used in service rifle comp out to 1k yards. These M1A's are normally bedded, quality barrels and have several mods done to them. A out of the box SAI should do 500-600 yards with ease. Don't expect sub moa, but most any should do 2- moa with good ammo.
 
Is it too much to assume that with an open sight grouping of 1.4in, I could bring that down to around 1 with glass? I could be completely wrong though
