I decided on getting another Ruger mini as a blaster / reliable .223 rifle. It's not in the same class accuracy wise of the AR series but it's a damn reliable rifle that needs few spare parts and mild cleaning to keep it running. That being said I wanted to find a GB model. I really liked the factory folder. I had little luck finding one at a realistic price. I did find a like new blued mini for a good price and the build was on. I did little to the stock gun except threading the barrel for a real flash hider /brake. I am a toolmaker by trade so that was an easy job. While I had it in the lathe I also cut a new crown on the barrel. I really hate the stock ruger front sight. The GB is a good style but is set back far to also mount a bayonet giving up sight radius. I picked up a front sight flash hider combo and cut off the flash hider part. I fitted the base to my barrel and drilled and pinned it on center. I also TIG welded the sight to the body. Now I have a good sight picture and a longer sight radius. I also modified my gas block and fitted and TIG welded a sling attachment on the side like a GB model. Once finished I bead blasted the entire gun and parkerized it then black gunkote finished it. I picked up a ruger factory folding stock and half a dozen factory 20's and I am finished.
Hopefully I can get to the range some time soon.

Very professional looking, like it was issued to you. Nice work. How does she shoot?

I don't understand why no aftermarket companies make a copy of that ruger factory folder stock. They sell for $300 to $400 on ebay, seems like they could make a killing selling them for around $150.

Have not made it to the range yet but hopefully it shoots like a typical mini-14. Usually they range accuracy wise like an AK or better. I REALLY like the Ruger folding stock design. I liked it so much I found a new one for $325. Pricey but they are not making them anymore. It's a shame because it was a good design.
