As of last week I purchased an '07 production Beretta 92FS Police Special. I finally got it out to the range today. I started with WinClean 124gr, at first it shot a bit to the left and low. However, after 40 rounds either I or the gun started shooting a whole lot better. 70 rounds in I was putting rounds through holes at 7 yards. I put 100 rounds of WinClean and 15 rounds of Federal HST through it with zero failures.

Overall I'm extremely happy I bought the gun. For 475 dollars it operates perfect and feels great in my hand. I know alot of people don't care for slide mounted safeties, or large grips, but the gun just feels to good when shooting for me to care.

PS-It felt great going to the range with my own pistol finally, rather than a rental

Congrats! I know that feeling. Keep on shooting and I'd recommend improving your skills by taking a self defense handgun course from Basic to Advanced! It'll be a great investment!

Well, I plan on taking my CCL class, and the advanced CCL class. 9mm's are great when you plan on shooting thousands of rounds in classes.

Congrats on the new gun. I still remember driving home with my first pistol. ;)

Good stuff my friend!

I'm sure you are going to have years and years of fun with this purchase.

Just remember this though, the worst thing you can ever do to a pistol is to let it sit in a safe. Go shoot the thing as much as you can!

Congrats!

Until a couple of months ago, my issued duty pistol was a 92FS. I carried it for 16 years, and had not one problem with it. I shot it in competition at the Ohio Police and Fire Games, three years, never failed to take a medal in Combat Pistol. Incredibly reliable, more accurate than I can shoot, and after all those years, the smoothest DA auto trigger I have ever experienced. I carried off duty concealed many times, even though it is one of the largest pistols in it's class. If you like it now, keep shooting, you'll love it forever!

I really want to get pictures up, but my old Logitech web cam isn't compatible with Vista and my new PC doesn't have a 15-1 reader for my camera  some how some day I'm gonna get pics up.

Welcome to the Beretta family!!!! They do tend to become an 'addiction'. I am also a proud 92FS owner and i totally agree with your and other posters observations regarding the inherent accuracy and reliability of the gun. For the next step, think about Crimson Trace Laser grips. One word . . . AWESOME!!!!!!!.

Enjoy and feel free to also come pay us a visit over at the Beretta Forum.

Some real die-hards over there and LOADS of 92 knowledge!!!!

I also bought a Beretta 92 FS police edition package (cardboard box and 3 hicaps) about a week or ten days ago. I noticed the same thing...I cleaned it extensively before shooting and the throating looked very precise but had almost a rough pattern to it...I assumed it would smooth out a bit. The first mag was all over the place (more likely me coming from a match grade 1911 trigger) the second mag was on the target...after several mags of plinking steel and bottles I got used to it a bit better and shot a softball sized group. My buddy (who always shoots DA and crappy triggers better for some reason) shot a golfball sized group with it at 15 yards. After 200 rounds I cleaned it extensively...throating seemed to have been " lightly matted" where it had that machine pattern going into the bore.

Another 200 rounds with more practical shooting of steel plates and some random "junk on the embanment" plinking. Last target was a tight even fist sized group at 15 yards. The trigger is smoothing out a little and perhaps the springs or plunger assembly are geting nicer. I plan to replace the hammer spring with a lighter "D" spring to make it a little more likable to this old 1911 and Glock shooter. But as different as it is I seem to really like it. It's seemingly reliable and above average in accuracy for a combat pistol. I just got my Bianchi 82 carrylock holster in today so I'll have more realistic practice this afternoon with it.

I just always wanted one and never owned a Beretta for all my many gun purchases...it was on sale NIB w/ 3 mags for $449.95 How could I possibly pass that up?!! Kittery trading post had the holster w/ free shipping for 54.95 also...fast free shipping! I've used this holster with my 1911 every for nearly 2 years now...excellent fast and secure with good ride characteristics. Should be good for the equaly huge (and even wider!) Beretta 92 I doubt it will carry as well as my thin 1911 but sometimes you need another toy...this was one of those times-LOL

I'm gonna put 150 rounds of stinky wolf ammo through it first today and follow that with a 100 rounds box of WWB before I clean it from last weekends last 200 rounds. If it will run through that without a hicup I believe I'll call it good to go. After that I'll clean it and shoot a few groups and post results before I bust out 200-300 more rounds of WWB. Afterall you just have to have 1K rounds on a gun before it's real "yours" :D

well dang...I think it's a keeper!

I ended up shooting 150 rounds of stinky filthy wolf and then 230 rounds of WWB without any cleaning (still 200 rounds of WWB and magtec fmj on it from last weekend from after it's 200 round break-in cleanings. It was FULL of crappy wolf residue but would not jam....switched to WWB...would not jam...let cool....would not jam. Barrel VERY dirty...still accurate. I actually burned a bunch of it sitting in a chair at the 50 yard bench (could ring the plates almost as well as with my 1911 oddly). Then halfway through (second box of WWB) went to plinking steel plates at 25 and 15 yards. Singles and doubles (*not doing doubles very well yet...way different than my 1911) singles are almost as solid though. Shot it one handed and it was amazingly point -you just about can't miss with it. Burned a mag occassionally to heat it up and then went back to plates. It would not jam and is just a joy to shoot the more the trigger breaks in (and likely I'm getting used to it) the more I like it.

I've shot it hot cold clean dirty and filthy...then I got home and wiped the heavy grime out of the bore chamber (filthy) slide (caked) and frame (no oil and dirty as heck) reassembled and now it feels nearly slick as new. Will burn the last of the stinky wolf tomorrow and then clean it and print some groups and shoot some more plate with it. I LOVE it in the new holster...carried it all afternoon and this evening...doesn't seem any worse than the 1911...it may be thicker a bit but it's also I think about 6-8 ouces lighter. It was odd having so many rounds between mag changes again-LOL Heck between the holster and the guns performance so far I may just give my 1911 a week or two off daily CCW use. Sure was cheaper to feed this afternoon! It'll have about 900 rounds on it by monday morning. I guess I'm the last guy on the planet to realize how good these pistols are...I don't know why it took me so long to buy one...the price was oustanding but even for $100 more I'd have called it a bargain after shooting it a bit.

I celebrated the afternoon by going and picking up another gun I always thought was neat but never owned myself...one of the new Ruger mini-14 ranch rifles. Looks like a heavier bbl better sights and I hear they actually shoot with decent accuraccy now. Most of the ones I've shot and borrowed have been pretty beat up though so I never really judged it that closely buty they seemed less accurate than a good SKS generally. So I guess tomorrow I'll wring it out and see how these new models do and then shoot some more 9mm up. Had a great steak to...what a day!

I bought one for my son (he's in the Air Force training to be an MP).

He was home for Christmas and we shot it for the first time.
I was very impressed with how well it shoots and how accurate it is. I bought it from a dealer on Gunbroker. The Police Specials are a great deal. They come with 3 mags and you can't beat the price.
Good luck with yours!

I just got some Beretta 92S pistols that are ~30 years old.

Like my 1934 Beretta .380s, the safety is not too fast, but the quality is sure there.

I am never going to carry these pistols anyway.
They are range queens for me.
But I ordered some M12 military holsters, in case I ever want to play soldier:)

I have a Kel-tec P3AT in my pocket. That ugly little pistol sure is light.

Congratulations on owning a fine pistol. The 92FS IMHO is one the must own 9mm semi autos.
