I decided I wanted a basic AR rifle for playing around with so I built this one.
It follows the basic pattern of the original Canadian C7 rifle with the exception of a heavy barrel in place of the Government profile and 1 in 9 twist replaces the 1 in 7 Military twist.
I also chose to install a Rock River two stage trigger group in place of the single stage AR trigger.
I have always appreciated a two stage trigger and never could get warm and fuzzy to a single stage.
The furniture is all A2.
I actually prefer the upgraded furniture of the A2.
I always felt A1 furniture was pretty flimsy.
The sights are basic A1.
The front post is round and .050 in diameter.
I may switch to tritium sights, probably Meprolight, in the near future but I wanted to relive my youth and try a rifle similar to what I first experienced in the Army but with upgrades that I feel might make me appreciate the basic AR more than I did way back then.

That basic A1 rear sight set up, charming.

I like your choice of upper.

I prefer the A1 rear sight over the A2. Good choice. If I were to buy/build anything other than a flattop, I'd go with the A1 sight by either getting an upper with the forward assist and no brass deflector, or the "C7" upper like that one pictured. I wouldn't do the original style with no forward assist or brass deflector.

The AR is a rifle with effectiveness out to 285 yards max using the latest and greatest ammo. A1 sight is ideal for that. A2 has that windage knob that can be bumped off zero. It's just extra parts and extra weight for no reason. USMC and their 800meter rifleman doctrine using a 200 yard assault rifle with a varmint cartridge. Makes no sense.

The A2 handguards are better than the A1, but I like the A1 buttstock. The A2's is longer and the buttpad is straight, and it is aggresively textured. A1 is smoother with a little more angle. Although, it does "feel" cheesy, I'll give the robustness to the A2.

Anyhow, that's a sweet rifle. Good luck with it. Sometimes simple is the best.
