I wanted to give a quick review and impression on my new Springfield XD subcompact 9. I won't bore you with all the technical aspects of it as you can get all that info from the XD website if you really want. I just want to share my initial thoughts and impressions on its form and function. I was currently using a Bersa Thunder UC 9 as one of my main carry options. I enjoy the Bersa and it has been a very good and reliable weapon and I have always been partial to hammer fired guns....that is until I acquired the XD. I have had a G26 before but could not get past the horrible Glock trigger but I'll get into that a little later. The XD has a 3" barrel while the Bersa has a 3.2" barrel with the OAL being basically the same while the XD is about 1/4" shorter in height and thinner overall as seen in the pic below.

I took theme both out yesterday to determine which one would be my main carry. I shot them both from 7 yards with the same 124gr law enforcement reloads. Both were shot at the same rate as I was wanting to determine my accuracy with each weapon and shot from a squatting position (as I do not find shooting from a bench practical for me as these are defensive weapons and not target pistols). In the picture below you will see the grouping for the XD on the right and the grouping for the Bersa on the left, 40 rounds through each.

Needless to say, I am very impressed at the accuracy of this little XD :). I consider myself a pretty decent shot but this XD makes me look even better :D. Despite the one flier, it tore that nice little grouping the size of my fist.

The recoil is about the same between the 2 as both are pretty soft in the recoil department. Overall my initial impressions of the XD is very good. I love the ergos and the grip safety is a non issue for me. I really really really like the trigger especially compared to other polymer framed pistols like Glock, which mine felt like shooting a staple gun. Smooth with a nice crisp feel. very nice IMO. The sights are good and shoot point of aim. I am very happy that I chose to give the XD a try and feel that it will be my carry companion for a long long time. My only complaint would be the finish on the slide as I already have a scratch from my belt buckle scraping it as I drew. Other than that I would highly recommend the XD to anyone. Thanks for reading!

Nice grouping and a nice looking gun as well. I'm thinking about getting another CC gun as well and this made my list.

I use a velcro wrap around the waist holster. I appendix carry and wear scrubs 90% of the time so that's what works best for me. Works well for my situation.

I highly recommend a Powder River drop in trigger kit. You will not believe the difference. Lighter trigger, shorter pull and much shorter reset. Groups are smaller and target acquisition much faster.

Thank you for the recommendation Bo, I will keep that in mind. I really do find the trigger to be easy and pleasant to use. I know they state the trigger pull to be from 5-7 lbs, but it feels lighter to me.

nice review. That's also me EDC as well. I really enjoy it and I'm very accurate with it. I might suggest you try the PRP trigger upgrade. It really made a difference.

How do you find carrying this compared to the G26? I have a 26 now but am thinking about switching to something different to get away from the bulk. I'm a Glock guy but there are times I wish their compact guns were more...compact

Joe, I can't imagine you would save anything in "bulk". You'd have to go to a thinner pistol [XDs, Shield, etc] to notice.

Compared to the G26 they are very similar. The XD has a slightly longer grip which I personally like since I can get my pinkie on it. The XD is still small enough to fit in a pocket and doesn't feel as blocky because of the longer grip. Others may disagree but thats how they feel to me. Grip angle also feels more natural for me. Both guns get the job done, for me it comes down to the ergos (grip angle) and trigger of the XD for me.

It definitely appears that it shoots very well. Glad you like it.
