Okay so I have shot a Ruger LCP and HATED it. I bought a Sig P238 and loved the way it shot but it was expensive and it was a finicky eater, especially as much as it cost. So this past weekend I bought a Taurus PT738, also known as a TCP. Well I took it to the range today at lunch and shot it and I was amazed how well it performed! It did not bite hard like the Ruger LCP and I never had a FTF, FTE, or FT anything. Granted, I only shot 50 rds but that is when they usually give you the most problems. As much as I admit to say it, based on experience I had with another Taurus, I love this little pocket pistol. So far I have lots of confidence in it and expect it to continue to serve be well.
 
The latest edition of American Rifleman just reviewed 9 new .380 semiautos and the Taurus got a good review. Except for the Rohrbaugh R380 which retails for over $1100, the Taurus seemed to have the fewest malfunctions and one of the lightest trigger pulls at 5lbs, 6oz. Been considering this myself as a pocket gun when it's not convenient to carry my XD or 442, but the Taurus name has me skeptical and hesitant to "pull the trigger".
 
 
So... no offense to anyone who keeps bringing the American Rifleman article up on these threads, but ... does anyone else kind of find Wiley Coyote a bit full of crap? He tested what, 10 different models, and all but one were unreliable? Really Wiley? Are you sure it wasn't, uh, I don't know, you?

I was reading his articles back in the 80's, and this is just a feeling I always had.

I have one of the models he supposedly tested and it has performed flawlessly using diff. brands of ammo and shooting an untold number of rounds.

I have heard from people that own some of the other models and none have said anything about the problems he had experienced. I have to wonder if some kind of a kickback is involved in his reporting.
 
Doesn't surprise me at all actually considering the makers and the class of guns.
Kahr, Keltec, SIG (not the SIG of old), Taurus, Ruger, Umarex/Walther. Not exactly known for churning out perfectly reliable pieces of machinery.

If we were talking service size 9mm autos from the likes of Glock, HK, SIG, Springfield, S&W, than yeah I'd be surprised.
 
I know I'm repeating myself again....but my Taurus 24/7 PT Pro Compact 9mm has been the most dependable pistol I've ever had. It's not the pistol's fault that I'm still not that accurate with it. Everyone else that fires it is. I think Taurus firearms gets trashed by a few people who have never fired one. I'm not saying every gun that comes off the line is a good one or they didn't put out some junk in the past, just that the bad rep they were stuck with for years, no longer applies. imo.
