I bought a Walther PPS .40S&W on 1/15 and since then I have had some Shell Casings Fail to Extract. I've tried different ammunition. Remington UMC 165GR, Remington Golden Saber 180GR, Winchester USA 180GR, Cor-Bon Self-Defense 165GR, and Magtech Golden Guardian 180GR. All except for the UMC were JHP.

I'd fire 2-3 shots from the 6-Round Magazine and after firing the 3rd or 4th shot, the slide would lock back stuck (Not all the way back) and I could see the empty shell casing lodged in the chamber/barrel. I had to disconnect the magazine with some force and once the magazine got disconnected, slide would slam forward then I rack the slide back and the empty shell casing would come out.

Could the problem be related to the Magazine or could it be something else? I have ordered 5 more Magazines for it.

I like the PPS because of it's size and I believe it be pretty accurate but if it's going to keep giving me problem(s) then I'm thinking I might trade it for a S/A XDm 3.8 Compact in 9mm or 40S&W.

How many rds have you put through the gun? The PPS seems to need to be broken in with a few hundred rds to improve the likelihood of reliable functioning. Did you clean and lube the gun before firing it? This helps too especially when the gun is new. The PPS seems to need more lube than say a Glock, esp when new.

I've got a 9mm PPS with about 1030 rds through it. Mine was pretty reliable from the beginning, but was certainly tight at first. It has gotten smoother in terms of the slide's movement on the frame rails as I've increased the rd count.

Are you experienced with very lightweight polymer framed guns? A gun like the PPS can be susceptible to malfunctioning if the shooter doesn't lock his wrists and provide a good firm grip on the gun.

Does the malfunction happen with more than one magazine? If not then you might have a mag problem.

You might want to check out the PPS subforum over at the Walther forum site. Lots of users there with good insights.
