Last few months i've had my eyes out for a 1917, a sporterized one specifically because I just wanted another 30-06 to keep around. Before I was looking for one, I found two of them for sale both under 300 dollars but when I was actually looking for one, I just couldn't find. So I had to resort online.

I really dig it

In great shape, and I am really growing to like it even though I have a military config one already. The thing is I believe I really want to attach a scope to this, what would be the best options for that? Perhaps a single long weaver piece to screw down on the rear of the receiver, where the rear sight assembly used to be?

The next thing I need is to find a sporterized 1903 for under 300 bucks if I can.

Weaver makes a standard one piece base for the M17. Goes on just like a Mauser across the bridge. A quick google turned up some of those rear mount only type bases. I have the former, and it is very solid and doesn't interfere with bolt travel or reloading.

Do note, they completely shredded the rear sight assembly on my example. But it looks like there's a single screw hole, that's been filled in with weld.
I'll look for the Weaver one

I believe it is meant for the "flat top" configuration where the sight assembly has been crudely sawed off. I'll be at my hunting cabin later today. I'll try to get you a picture of the one piece base on my M17 Sporter, and possibly a part number if I can read it.
