This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing Government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it or their 'revolutionary' right to dismember or overthrow it.

At what point should we expect the approach of danger? By what means are we to fortify against it? Shall we expect some trans-Atlantic military power to step across the ocean and crush us? Never. At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it cannot and it will not come from abroad. If danger ever reach us, it must spring up from amongst us. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of free men, we will live through all time or die by suicide. And no free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. The strongest reason for people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.

Nuff said. If you believe the the government has stepped on your rights? Why don't you do something about it. Rather than talk about doing something about it. Or even worse try to do something about it on their terms. Sorry that's just a poor tactician....I'm tired of hearing about people trying to revive a dead horse. Replace it.

Amen! The second best reason is to protect ourselves from the predation of criminals—unless, of course, tyranny in government is a subset of the predation of criminals.
