While in gunsmithing school I took my 9 1/2" 454 casull super redhawk and decided to make it into a camp gun. Make it more weildable than it was, and more controllable than the alaskan. I also bead blasted and did a trigger job that got the DA trigger pull down to 8 1/2 lbs.

Good job grunt! That is a nice looking gun - it's a wonder that Ruger doesn't offer any similar in between models.

(Its JUST like a GUN FORUM to ignore someone like you, who contributed something original which took effort, while the latest "what ammo for defense?" thread drags out to page 10) :rolleyes:
 
I like the idea of a middle ground gun between the long barrels of the SRH and the Alaskan, and it looks like you did a good job working on the gun.

The bead blasting looks great. Does it offer better rust protection or just for looks?
 
Gun looks nice, have you shot it yet to see how it handles? Forgive my ignorance but what is the standard trigger pull weight for DA on an unmodified SRH?
 
very nice. what is the new barrel length? it looks short, but it still looks very good!
 
JEB it's a 4" barrels.

mdThantos, I've only test fired it after the trigger job to make sure it was reliable, the standard trigger was north of 12 lb,

Birdmang, the bead blast was because it was originally the ruger stainless steel gray and I had no way to match that when i did the cutting so I just went with a beadblast for athestics.
 
Nice job, very neat piece. How aout a pic of the barrel crown?
 
I like the looks of that better than any Redhawk I've seen. What a wonderful 'woods walking' gun that would make!
 
There's nothing like owning a 1 of a kind revolver especially when it serves a purpose!

Very nice looking work. Are you considering doing more?
 
Great minds think alike obviously.

I recently bought this Super Redhawk shortened in much the same manner which is chambered in .44Mag.

I don't know about the .454Casull but mine is sweet to shoot in .44Mag due to the heavier weight of the SR frame.

In my gun's case the work was done by a local smith to order for a guy that originally used it for wilderness carry in the far north. He decided to go with something more powerful and sold off this .44Mag gun.
 
I took her out for the first time today. I must say it's not any less controllable than the 9 1/2" barrel but does have quite the muzzle flash even in daylight.
