Ok. So i headed out to buy my lcp today (cant wait to pick it up) and on the way back i decided to stop in and look at a local shop. There i foumd a nagant revolver. The guy there didnt know what it was, he had a tag stating C.A.I. so that told me the extent of him knowledge on this firearm. I dont know alot about them. But i knew what it was. After looking at it a while, a fellow i had ran into be came in, so we started talking. I remember from before that he seemed to know his guns well. So i asked him about it. It had 4 cylinders The one in it + 3. And it comes woth a few rounds of a few different calibers. After he looked at it, he determend one was the original. One was 32 acp, whichvi assumed one would be. One was 32 s&w. And one was 30 tokarav (he said its also called 7.62x25). The gun was in good shap, minus some were on the grips. we both agreed that the barrel was in GREAT shape. He said he owned four and none were as good as this barrel. It also comes with a cheap plastic case with egg shell phone the PO picked up along the way. They were selling it $200. No less ( i tried). Normally i like to think about things, but i have seen this guy buy all kinds of things. And i do have a little knowledge of these, and already new i wanted one. So i put it on layaway, as i was broke from the lcp. Its stamped 1938 with the star (tula?) And seemed to function fine with all the cylenders.

Heres were im confused. First, i new they made 32 acp barrels for it, but had no clue to the others, does it seems the above guesses are correct? We marked them accordingly so i will know in the future.

Also, i thought it was worth it. The gun is $100 or so online, before shipiing and ffl. So $120-$150 OTD. This was $200 with 4 barrels, 30~ rounds (10~ 7.62 nagant, 10~ 30 tokerav, 10~ .32 s&w) a case and the gun. Whats your take on the price. Worth it?

You mean cylinders? with those different calibers?

They all pretty much have the same bullet diameter so the barrel isn't a problem.

I've had crap for luck with extra cylinders for my nagant but was told by several people 32 h&R mag works in the original ..although I haven't tried it.

S&B also makes the original 7.62 nagant ammo although it's not cheap.

Yes. What i say? Lol. Long day.

I just wanna verify they make cylinders for those calipers and tuat there fine. Like i said, i only new about the original and 32 acp. Didnt know they made the others.

Just read that somewere else. Too bad, thats probably the cheapest. didnt get much detsil though, past kaboom. Not that i need more detail. Lol. That cylinder is nkw a novalty, though it seems the PO shot it. Lucky guy. Haha.

EDIT:

now i understand way, seems that takerov is quite a powerful round... Theres still plenty of newbie in me. Good thing i posted (and have a habit of researching things to death).

All you need is the original cylinder because, while it is better to shoot the original Nagant cartridge to get the gas seal effect, you can safely shoot 32 S&W longs and shorts as well as 32 magnum. The 32 ACP cylinder might or might work, they have been problematical as far as functioning. As you have learned the 7.62X25 cylinder is a grenade waiting to go off. If it was me I'd throw yours away.

Straight cartridges, like the .32 S&WL and .32 H&RM, will bulge near the rim, as they will be loose there in the tapered chamber. Neither case will be reloadable - and either may split, too. Not knowing the original ammo's chamber pressure, I no longer shoot .32 H&RM in any of my Nagants. Fiocchi and the more affordable Serbian 'prvi partizan' 1895 Nagant ammo are the safest - and most appropriate ammo for the weird revolver. Always wear eye protection!

There was a time - several years ago - that you could get an excellent condition refurb, lanyard, holster, cleaning rod, and screwdriver for $65. I saw one in poor shape at a gunshow for $300 recently... times change! There is an excellent Nagant-only sub-forum at gunboards.com - great info. I reload for mine - too short of a case, so mine doesn't b/c gap seal. I use M1 carbine-sized adapted .32-20 cases. Get the right ammo - the 'prvi partizan' ammo is good - and, while not cheap, it is affordadble (~$25/50) and clean. I hope your trigger finger is 'in shape' - a 'good' DA trigger is still 20 lb! Welcome to the madness.

Thanks guys. I will check that sub forum out. The 32 acp cylibder seems to function fine. I wantto at least try it.

The nagant rounds it comes with are funky even compared to others i have seen... They look like the ones below... And have "38" and "85" on the back.

I ran mine with a .32 ACP cylinder for a few years. It was a lot of fun, but the original with the original rounds was still the most accurate combination.
