A good friend has a mint Navy Luger with 200 mm (about 8”) barrel, all matching numbers, made by DWM, 1916. A collector from USA is interested in it, but my friend doesn’t have info what is the value in US. Anybody has an idea, what is in the Blue Book? Many thanks on his behalf.

I thought Navy Lugers had 150mm = 6" barrels with an adjustable sight on the rear toggle.

An 8" barrel (With sight on the barrel?) would be an Artillery model.

Which has he got? A real Navy is worth more, so many ships and subs got sunk and went down with their crews' smallarms.

Has the US collector got his import requirements in place?

Thanks to all. I contacted some folks and looks like that my friend has something unique. No, this one is not artillery one, the rear sight is on the aft side of the receiver, as normal on Navy Lugers. All matching numbers (last 2 digits) on all parts, including Navy stamps on a left side. Waiting for more info from Germany. We’ve heard that this one could be done as a special (personal) order. As for import/export permits, well, this is something that noted collector is doing all the time, so I am assuming that he has them all, or at least working trough licensed dealer. Hope to have pictures by the end of the week. Unfortunately, we will not put them on the net, as friend requested. Maybe later, with numbers hidden.

The Navy is probably the most commonly faked popular variant of the Luger. Newly reproduced parts are available to build them from the ground up, and recent market offerings suggest that several production runs were originated by one or more of Waffenfabrik U.S.A. fraudsters well known to the collector community. Fortunately, basic techniques for identifying aftermarket refinish and parts replacement have been documented at the Lugerforum. Additional understanding of boosting techniques can be derived from surveying high condition Navy Lugers that recently sold -- and failed to sell -- on online auction sites.
