So, I'm having Colt start the custom job on my 1911. They are doing the "Tactical Package". I am also having them add a long trigger, replace all MIM parts and add a match grade barrel and bushing.

The extra work outside of the Tactical Package adds exactly $300 on to the price. I have no reservations about paying for the trigger and removal of MIM parts, because that is only $125. So my question is, is it worth $175 for a fitted barrel and bushing? I don't believe too much in all the NM or MG barrels (marketing), but $175 seems cheap enough for a properly fitted "match grade" barrel and bushing, with the focus on the fitting.

So, while it's there do I spend the extra $ and have them "add" a MG set-up?

What is the intended use for the gun? If it is a carry gun IMHO it is not worth the extra money. If you are shooting decent groups with the factory barrel which should improve with a nice trigger job I doubt you will see a difference at self defense ranges or even out to 25 yards. I recently had some custom work done on a Colt CCO and I left the factory barrel and bushing.

Now if you are looking to shoot this thing as match gun at 25 yards + then the extra $$ might be worth it to get that little extra improvement.

It really is an issue of cost vs deminsihing returns. Do you think that you can eek out better groups with the better barrel and is it worth $175.
