Folks,

I'm seriously updating my website and taking it in a new direction. In times past I've kept my RKBA activism separate from my voting rights activism.

The more I study the situation, the more I think that was a mistake. The two issues collide on too many fronts, both present day and (especially) historical. The Battle Of Athens was a sterling example, as was the Cruikshank case.

I'm basically going to set up the new site in two columns, voting on one, guns/CCW/RKBA on the other. With cross-links to each other where appropriate. Some of the lefties in the voting reform movement are going to freak out...so be it :).

That means a name change and new logo. Haven't *quite* settled on the new name but it will involve some variation on the words "bullets and ballots" :D.

It's the new site graphic I need help with.

I need somebody to photoshop two pics together. The net effect I'm looking for is a typical fill-in-the-dots-type ballot laying on a table with a single-action revolver laying next to it. Something like this:

bulletsnballots.gif

(There's also a pen involved, any type will do, plain or fancy...)

I've found a pretty good graphic of a ballot that can either be printed and photographed with an SA-type gun or twisted around to the right angle and shrunk down to a proper size next to a gun:

http://www.anncanedy.com/images/ballot.JPG

It's pretty high-res so I won't paste the graphic in here...and the word "specimen" can be cropped out easily enough.

Can anyone either take this shot as a photograph or photoshop something together? I'm looking for about 200x200 pixel count or so...maybe a bit more but not more than 300x300 I don't think.

Any assistance appreciated; artist's credit and website if desired will be at the bottom of the page or among the links...

Jim,

I'm no photoshop guru, but I would suggest you consider a slight change of theme. Instead of the handgun, have an open box of handgun cartridges, with perhaps some lying beside the box. The theme I'm referring to is the quote that our freedom is based on three boxes: The soap box, the ballot box, and the cartridge box. Showing two (or better, three) of them together would reinforce that theme.

Best of luck with your project.

You know...I thought of that but...no, I think I'd rather stick with an SA. It's a "milder" type of gun that the liberals who will be around won't freak out over.

I need this pretty quick, too, I have some great new material in the works.

Jim,

we talked about this already. Email me the ballot file, as promised, and I'll get the photoillustration made for you.

Jim, I do web design & if I'm reading right your layout wont work out all to well (unless the users have Widescreen monitors), rows might do better than columns, but the best most easy to use would be to simply blend the 2 into one site.

If you want I can try to come up with a sketch of something when a get a little free time (up to my eyeballs in work till thurs/fri) so you can see what I mean.

OK. We're covered on the graphic itself - THANKS OLEG! Due to a mixup I didn't think he could cover it. That's solved.

Now as to web layout, by all means let's talk about that.

Note that I want to maintain compatibility with 800x600 screen users but also "auto expand" to whatever wider width somebody's got.

What I'm visualizing right now is a single logo/banner about 250pixels tall, 800 wide. A block of that roughly square or a bit wider (300 pixels or so) is the graphic, with the page title text to one side. That's handled as a single centered graphic at top.

Below that is three columns. The leftmost is text on voting machine and system reform, labeled as such. The center is a thin graphic that's as tall as the site separating the two - a column of vines or whatever. Maybe 20 pixels wide tops. This WILL be centered no matter what the screen resolution. To the right, the RKBA column so labeled.

I *think* that even at 800 pixels wide, I can get a decently readable text column in each. I could be wrong mind you, but...I don't think so. Online newspapers often get more columns going...look at, say, google news fr'instance http://news.google.com for a good 2-column solution.

If I'm wrong...OK, cool, I can take criticism no problem but...how is this not going to work?
