i was just at a yardsale and took a look at 2 rifles they had there.

first is a winchester model 55. i had never seen one before. he wanted 130 for it but it has a cracked stock up near the slide. i thought it was a neat little 22 but dont know what a replacement stock would cost or what to offer with the crack in the stock.

second is a mossberg ss bolt action chuckster 650k (i think thats the right number) 22wmr it had ironsighter mounts and a scope i dont recall the name of. nothing special but very clear 4x32. he wanted 285 for it i offered 225 and he says he cant go below 250 with the mounts anc scope. any idea what the rifle itself is worth would be very helpfull.

also is the winchester supposed to have a mag? it looked like there was a place for one under where you feed the shells in.

Mio;

Winchester 55's are either a single shot .22, known as the "automatic", or a lever action variant of the model 94 & is a center fire gun.

The Mossberg is waaay overpriced according to the information I come up with.

thx cb i was just looking on gunbroker and came up with the same thing on the mossberg. however i see what you mean by the winchester. after looking there and it only giving me a lever action rifle.
but this was definatly marked as a 55 on the barrel and it looked semi auto i wish i had a pic of it.
it wasnt breechloading as in through the stock but loaded from the back of the action on top of the rifle and had an empty space running down through the stock under where you load it. it was really strange but i didnt pay much attention to it after i noticed the crack in the stock. maybe ill go back and look again if i cant find it anywhere on here.

it did say on the barrel that it takes shorts long or long rifles so that fits in with the single shot.

ok i found it on gunbroker 225 starting bid so im gonna go buy it. it is single shot it bottom ejects. neat!!
i let you know later what i have to pay for it.

Mio;

I just checked Numrich, they don't have much for the Winchester model 55, .22 "Automatic". I didn't see either a schematic or stock listed. You might try Old Western Scrounger. Other than that, try to find a damn good wood man & see what he's willing to do for it.

no pic yet ill try to get one later today. the crack doesnt bother me a whole lot i think i can fix it myself with a bit of gorrilla wood glue.
im very happy with the deal since the one i found on gunbroker had a beat up stock and was 225 for opening bid. i found one on gunsamerica that had a beat up stock with a crack in the same place mine is for 250. havent shot it yet but i will this afternoon. cant wait its a nice little 22 and its different. :)

Here's a few pics; sorry they're not real clear. It was my first try, the second pic was an attempt at showing the crack.

okay, I would deff try for the mossy, that is a top 5 all time 22 mag rifle. It is a seriously well made rifle, very big boy, and the accuracy of the chuckster, is a well known fact to be as about as accurate you will ever find with a 22 mag.
Those in the know on those mossy 22 mags, will deff tell you it is not overpriced, but is in the ballpark, if it is in even just decent shape.
